2015 Shannons Sydney Winter Classic Auction

A super-rare piece of Australian motoring history is about to change hands at the Shannons Sydney Winter Classic auction. With the raging sales success of the VB Commodore contrasting the GM Holden abort on ATCC manufacturer support of the Holden Racing Team in 1979, the late great hero Peter Brock concocted the HDT VB Commodore. Basically, with the support of Holden’s dealer network the project developed and then built 500 examples of this five-litre V8 Aussie super saloon.

Beautifully restored, this is the original prototype, build number #001, in Sage Green. The former owner’s title on this rare-breed Commy goes back to 1982 when it was acquired as an employee at Les Vagg Holden in Pennant Hills, NSW, one of the founding Holden Dealer Team dealers. She’s a beauty and has all the right paperwork – so don’t miss this once in a lifetime opportunity.

Other Aussie metal up for auction will include a gorgeous Convoy Grey FX Holden which looks to be in gorgeous condition and will pluck at the Aussie-faithful’s heart strings. There’s a heroic E38 Big Tank VH Charger up for grabs in Hot Mustard with all the right stripes and the perfect hint of originality and a solid six-pack powerplant rebuilt to punch Toranas and Falcons square in the chops.

A ’57 Caddy Eldorado Biarritz in right-hand drive is asking some deliciously stylish money at $100,000-plus, a sweet little Porsche 356 in a pastel red is asking similar money, and a 1973 Ferrari Dino 246GT wants big dollars at $260-320,000 in metallic green.

Budget bids will be the Triumph Stag MkII convertible at 12-15K, the ’64 MGB Roadster asking sub 20 grand and a MkII Cortina 1600 begs to be bought. Plus there’s a lovely Cooper open-wheeler itching to go racing and plenty of pre-war machinery that is hard to look past.

Shannons Sydney Winter auction is on August 10 and begins at 7pm. If you can’t make it to the 65 Reserve Road, St Leonards, NSW headquarters, check out www.shannons.com.au and watch the auction online!
