1972 Volvo P1800 – $79,990
Not even Simon Templar had one of these to chase the baddies in the English TV series The Saint. He had to make do with the much more common coupe version. The P1800 ES Shooting Brake is rarer than gold dust and Volvo only made them for two years, with less than 1000 produced in right-hand-drive trim and a handful finding their way here. This is the only one for sale in Australia and it has been painstakingly restored some time ago. Finished in gold, with pebble beige interior and chock full of every option offered, adding to its rarity is the four-speed manual gearbox, behind a fuel-injected two-litre four-cylinder engine.

2006 Mitsubishi Lancer EVO IX – $59,000
Mitsubishi’s rally-bred rocket has had more evolutions than I’ve had hot meals. With each version came more of everything, but what do you expect. It is an homologation special that allowed Mitsubishi to go and play in the mud with Subaru in events around the globe. This is the final 4G63 powered EVO, with a claimed power output of 206kW from its 2.0 litre turbo four, partnered with a six-speed gearbox. The shorter wheelbase of this version hits the handling sweet spot and I reckon the blue paint looks great. Big Brembos provide stopping power and the active centre diff lets you drive on the rough stuff like a seasoned veteran.

2000 Ford AU TE50 – $24,950
As good as they were, the fast Fords from Tickford were never embraced and adored like HDT and HSV products. Pity. That aside, one of their finest toys was the Series 2 TE50 and this is a one-owner car in Venom red with optional leather trim, and one of 141 cars that rolled out with the AU II at the turn of the century. With a Synergy 5000 Windsor V8 in its snout, it didn’t mess about. The donk was hand assembled and wore aluminium cylinder heads, a revised cam and punched out a respectable 220kW for a 0-100km/h time of 6.7 seconds and 400m in 14.7 seconds. Looking at it you wouldn’t guess it has done 282,851 klicks.
