Uncle Phil’s Picks: 1953 Holden 48-215 FX

1953 Holden 48-215 FX – $53,000

The car that Ben Chifley proudly called ‘ours’ at the launch at Fishermans Bend in 1948, continues putting a smile on people’s faces when they spot one.

Holden stole a march on the competition with the 48/215 and never looked back until 2017 when the General’s production-line doors closed.

When I was growing up these were more common than phone boxes, but able to fit more people.

Finished in a lovely green and white two-tone, with yards of vinyl trim, this 48/215 has been given a restoration and in its snout is a six-cylinder grey motor with a three-on-the-tree manual. Australian history on wheels.
