Few names stir the blood of Aussie muscle car enthusiasts like the Ford Falcon XY GT.
Born in the golden era of local performance, these machines delivered the raw power, swagger and Bathurst pedigree that cemented them as national icons.
This May, Chicane Auctions is proud to offer not one, but two remarkable examples — each with its own distinct personality and history, yet both destined to ignite bidder passions.
The Yellow Ochre GT — One of One
First up is an October 1971-built Ford Falcon XY GT, a one-of-one factory car originally ordered as a Ford employee special. Delivered in the striking factory hue of Yellow Ochre over ‘S2’ Saddle Vinyl / Cloth trim, it presents as a stand out combination.
The matching numbers engine has been painstakingly upgraded to close Phase III mechanical specification or above, boasting numerous vendor-verified GT-HO Phase III components — from the engine to the brake booster and vacuum tank, right through to the 31-spline Toploader four-speed gearbox and 31-spline Nodular 9-inch LSD.
With just over 82,000 miles showing — a figure believed genuine, supported by its 2001 Shannons sale at 78,000 miles — it presents as a beautifully balanced blend of originality and performance enhancement.
A bare-metal restoration has returned it to near-showroom splendour, while the untouched underbody and factory-preserved engine bay, complete with unremoved ID tags, anchor its authenticity. Sold its original Victorian-issued black-and-white plates, KZF 825.
The Track Red GT — A Purist’s Dream
Facing it across the auction block is a 1970 Ford Falcon XY GT in Track Red with Black interior — an early-production September 1970 car delivered new via Nuford Motors, Lakemba, NSW. For the purists, this car ticks all the right boxes.
Running its matching-numbers T-code 351ci Cleveland 4V “D Block,” rebuilt to its factory-rated 300-horsepower spec, it’s mated to a Toploader four-speed gearbox, 9-inch LSD, and factory GT heavy-duty suspension. A full restoration and bare-metal respray in 2006, elevating this car to a presentation level that’s truly showroom or better, with even the cars underside presenting absolutely immaculate.
Inside, the cabin is a time capsule, retaining original details, including its factory door cards, with a complete restoration breathing fresh life into the rest. It’s backed by a Ford Letter of Build Confirmation, a full restoration file and documented ownership history — ticking the boxes collectors crave.
Two Icons. One Auction. Same Reserve
Two legendary XY GTs, each with a distinct character. The Yellow Ochre GT, armed with Phase III firepower or the Track Red GT, an immaculate, near-concours example. Both are offered with a $280,000–$330,000 reserve guide.
The decision is yours.
So — which Falcon GT would you choose?
