The 11th of June saw the kick off of The Finest 2016 auction, which was broadcast live across the globe via an online bidding platform, with over 50 lots passing under the hammer.
Some of the biggest ticket items flew off the podium first, with the biggest bite of the day coming in for the 1968 Lamborghini 400GT 2+2 at US$577,500.
This beautiful Italian machine was born in Italy and made its way into the US in the early ’70s where it has changed hands no more than 5 times, with each owner being an avid collector who obsessively took care of the ’68 masterpiece. This love kept it in almost perfect condition, making it a very valuable car to the right collector.
Two classic Bugattis, the 1927 Bugatti Type 38-A Grand Sport and the 1929 Bugatti Type 40A Roadster took out the second and third highest bids with a huge US$440,000 and US$375,000 respectively.
With each car having such a long and storied history it’s no surprise that the well restored and stunningly original Bugatti’s sold for such a large amount. The former Bugatti comes from a sports car with a road-worthy conversion dating back to 1937 while the latter is a 60’s barn find restored in 2004 and fresh off an intricate engine rebuild.
The Finest also presented some very unique and aesthetically striking cars over the duration of the auction, including a funky 1991 Subaru Sambar 4×4 Fire Truck and a 1967 Kaiser M725 Ambulance that went for US$16,500 and US$5,500 respectively.
Unfortunately, most cars that came through the Auction only managed to sell for just on or below their low end estimations, with no cars surpassing expectations.
Despite some poor results in the lots, The Finest Hershey 2016 auction managed a great sell-through rate of 63 percent, and totalled $3,463,700 in sales, which is an overall great result.
