The motoring equivalent of a mailed fist in a silk glove
Jaguar’s X300 series XJ cars were a significant update of the long-lived XJ body shape that could trace its time in the market all the way back to 1968.
By this period the brand was owned by Ford – no bad thing since it brought a lot of resources into the company, not least of which was a much-needed injection of capital.
Built 1994 to 1997, it featured several engineering upgrades and what was widely believed to be an improvement in the finish.
A few specials were built over that time and this, the X302 supercharged six, was one of them. This was very much at the performance end of the Jaguar catalogue in 1997, with the Eaton M90 supercharger bumping engine output up to a very healthy 326hp (243kW) and torque to 512Nm. That gave the car 0-100km/h times in the sub six second bracket – very quick.
Meanwhile owners were treated to an exceptional leather and wood interior.
Ride and handling was always a high point on these cars.
This example claims a low mileage and a well-documented service history. It’s at Paradise Garage in Sydney at $24,950, which seems like a lot of car for the money.
