Events: Summernats 28, 2015

Street Machine Summernats 28 is well underway in Canberra, with crowds of around 100,000 expected to turn up to watch some 1800 entrant cars do their thing...

SUMMERNATS 28,
January 1 – 4, 2015

Day two: Friday
The event kicked off yesterday with a successful attempt at setting a new world record for the most cars to perform simultaneous burnouts. With a representative from Guiness World Records on hand, 103 of the 107 starters managed to perform the 30 seconds of stationary tyre-frying needed for the attempt to be judged a success.

Things ramped up from there today, with Northbourne Avenue closed down for the Shannon’s City Cruise. This allowed nearly 200 wild street machines to cruise Canberra’s main drag, with a good-sized crowd of citizenry on hand to cheer them on.

Back inside Exhibition Park, the two highly-contested burnout competitions kicked off, with qualifying for the Liqui Moly Burnout Championship and the Burnout Masters wildcard shootout. Judging was also underway all day for show judging, culminating with the covers coming off the latest crop of elite cover cars tonight. Other attractions include the Horsepower Heroes dyno compeition, grass driving events and the ever-popular go-to-whoa. Summernats 28 wraps up on Sunday, when the prestigious Grand Champion award is presented by Street Machine editor, Simon Telford.
