Standout cars highlight a landmark 2025 for Chicane Auctions

Chicane Auctions has closed out 2025 with a strong run of sales, marked by the successful auctioning of some of the most significant, diverse and historically important collector vehicles to pass through its Melbourne showroom.

Among the standout sales was a remarkable 1970 Ford Falcon XY GT “barn find” – a genuine, untouched example that had not been moved since 1973 and displayed just 24,561 miles from new. This car attracted strong interest from serious collectors, underscoring the premium now placed on originality and provenance.

Equally significant was the sale of an extraordinary one-family-owned 1898 De Dion-Bouton tricycle, believed to be the first petrol-driven vehicle owned in Australia.

A true artefact of early motoring history, the De Dion-Bouton represented a once-in-a-generation opportunity and drew international attention due to its provenance, originality and historical importance.

Australian muscle featured prominently throughout the year, with many outstanding Holdens successfully sold, including an exceptional Holden HK 327 Bathurst – a cornerstone model in Australia’s touring-car racing heritage.

Chicane also achieved results across the entire spectrum of Australian Ford performance, having sold every locally produced Falcon GT variant from the original XR GT through to XB GT’s and even the final-generation GT “F”. Highlights included a highly collectible Ford Falcon XA GT RPO83 Hardtop, one of the most desirable factory-optioned GTs of the 1970s.

Beyond the headline muscle cars, 2025 saw strong demand for rare and enthusiast-focused classics.

Sales included a Ford Escort Twin Cam, a range of supercharged and steel-bodied hot rods, and an impressive selection of European performance cars. Porsche and Mercedes remained a consistent performer, led by a striking 1983 Porsche 930 Turbo, alongside several other sought-after Stuttgart classics.

Motorsport and competition-inspired machinery also played a key role in the year’s success. Race-car specials and high-quality recreations found enthusiastic new owners, most notably a stunning Ford GT40 by GTD, which captured the raw presence and engineering drama that continue to make the GT40 legend so compelling for collectors.

“We’re incredibly proud of the calibre of cars entrusted to us throughout 2025,” said Daniel Lamprell, Managing Director of Chicane Auctions.

“From historically significant vehicles to blue-chip Australian muscle and specialist enthusiast cars, the diversity of what we sold is a clear reflection of trust collectors place in our professional expertise.”

Lamprell said Chicane Auctions’ ongoing appeal is it’s seller-focused business model which has no selling fees, no commissions and no deductions, and vendors retain 100 per cent of the hammer price – a structure that keeps more in the sellers pockets.

He said Chicane Auctions’ 2025 results stand as a reminder that specialist knowledge, meticulous presentation and transparency remain key drivers of strong outcomes in the classic-car auction space.
