The Standard and Triumph Car Club of NSW Inc. (STCC) was set up in 2003
Enthusiasts of the marques from around the state decided at a meeting in Newcastle to form a new club, to cater for fans of both Standard and Triumph classic cars, given their common origins in the Coventry factory in the UK.
While a number of existing clubs met the needs of particular Triumph owners, there were none which covered both Standard cars and the broader spectrum of Triumph vehicles.
Subsequently the STCC’s numbers were boosted by a merger with the Triumph pre-1954 Heritage Club in 2005.
Current STCC Club President, Steve Wills, perhaps unsurprisingly, is a passionate advocate for the club. “The Standard and Triumph Car Club of NSW is a great club,” he said. “Its most outstanding feature is its members. We have around 130 members who are a really good group of people who love their cars. They also really enjoy the social side of the club’s activities.
“To cater for our membership that’s spread throughout NSW, with some also interstate, we organise meetings and get togethers at a range of locations across four geographical regions each year. We clocked up over 60,000kms last year attending the various club activities. So you can see that as well as loving their cars, our members love driving them.
“The club’s next event is our summer get together at Parkes in Central NSW on February 17-18. These weekends away, giving your pride and joy a run and catching up with friends, are very popular with our members.”
As well as serving an important social role, the club’s member network provides a valuable means of sharing restoration and maintenance tips, as well as sourcing information for hard to get parts.
