Ford XB Fairmont: Our shed

Ford XB Fairmont
It’s funny how we come to love the things we grow up with. Since I can remember, my father has owned a 1975 XB Ford Fairmont GS, so it was only a matter of time until I got one of my own.
Having owned an XM Falcon Deluxe wagon as a weekend cruiser, it was time for a change and there was only one car that could replace it. Yep it’s a ’75 XB Fairmont, just like Dad’s albeit not a GS.
It was an original one-owner car with 191,000km on the clock. I bought it off the mechanic who had looked after it for the past 30 years. It still retains the AM radio and under-dash air-con, and the original owner’s manual in the still in the glovebox.
I’ve replaced the stock wheels and hubcaps with period-correct 12-slotters and fitted a dual exhaust system with GT tips. The engine is soon to come out for a full rebuild and the vinyl roof is in need of some attention.
She’s a fantastic cruiser, even in the heat thanks to that air-con. And she isn’t likely to be replaced anytime soon.
