Just about as good as it gets
Singer Vehicle Design, weavers of dreams and creators of some of the hottest Porsche 911s ever to grace the bitumen, have released their latest concoction, and it looks bloody marvellous.
The new vehicle, which Singer has coined as the Dynamic and Lightweighting Study (DLS), is a one-off, client commissioned object of wonderment.
To create the bespoke machine, Singer paired up with Williams Advanced Engineering, yep… that Williams, as well as a host of other manufacturers and individuals, and the results are drool-worthy.
For a start, the engine is a Porsche four-valve, four-camshaft, naturally aspirated, 373kW (500hp) air-cooled flat-six monster that has been developed by Williams Advanced Engineering with consultation from doyen of Porsche GT engines, Hans Mezger.
What’s even more absurd is that, not only is the oomph on offer prodigious, but the berserk donks redline is rumoured to be north of 9000rpm! That’s outrageous.
The gorgeous body of the 911, which started life as a 1990 964, has also been worked on heavily by Williams, with an emphasis on optimizing underbody and surface aero through CFD analysis.
And if that doesn’t sound awesome enough, Williams also worked with legendary race car designer and automotive engineer, Norbert Singer.
Singer was instrumental in every single one of Porsche’s 16 victories at the Le Mans 24 Hours between 1970 and 1998.
In addition, the DLS really has gone to town on the lightweighting front, and thanks to extensive use of exotic materials such as magnesium, titanium and carbon fibre, the car tips the scales at a featherweight 990kg.
Other gorgeous and bespoke componentry that Singer has adorned the DLS with include custom Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres, BBS lightweight 18-inch forged magnesium, monobloc, centre-lock wheels, Brembo lightweight, monobloc calipers and carbon composite rotors, a Hewland lightweight, six-speed manual transmission made from magnesium and EXE-TC dampers.
And to top all of this amazingness off, the car has been developed by auto journalist, Top Gear presenter and all-round legend, Chris Harris, and racecar driver and winner of the 12 hours of Sebring, Marino Franchitti.
Singer Vehicle Design say that they will create no more than 75 DLS studies in total, and while there’s no mention of price from the manufacturer, the lightweight beauty will almost certainly be firmly in the seven figure price tag category. What a car!
