1967 Shelby 427 S/C Cobra roadster
Sold: $4.14M
Mecum
This superb 427 S/C Cobra Roadster is one of 29 made and has had five owners since new. What’s more it only has 10,760 original miles on the clock, making it 2152 miles per owner! Ordered new by John Grappone of Grappone Ford in New Hampshire it cost $7395. In 1982, gold futures trader Dan Turman walked into Grappone Ford and offered Alan Grappone cash for the S/C Cobra and kept counting out notes until Grappone accepted his offer of $107,000 – a $99,000 profit. Despite its tender mileage, it underwent a resto in 2002 and was bought by renowned collector Steven Juliano in 2007. This car is regarded as the most original and correct S/C Cobra in existance.
1974 Ford XB Fairmont GS
Sold: $63,000
Shannons
The XA was the first truly Australian Falcon, designed, tested and made here. The XB was introduced in 1973 being the second model to use this body shape.
Distinguished by its honeycomb grille and new taillights, this 1974 example is a collectible GS Pack fitted with optional driving lights. The burnt orange with black interior has had a 351 V8 dropped into where a 302ci originally sat. The interior has had a retrim with orange cloth seat centres. Showing just 8070 kms on the clock, it’s ripe for a resto.

1969 Chevrolet Camaro 383
Sold: $48,400
Graysonline
One of Australia’s most successful touring cars was the 1969 Chevy Camaro of the late Bob Jane. Identical in colour to this one, it took the tyre magnate to both the 1971 and 72 touring car titles and this one is just as big and intimidating as Jane’s. Powering this GM muscle car is a 383ci V8 bolted to a four-speed manual box. With 27,047 miles on the clock it seems to be complete and for most parts original. The interior has had a spruce up at some point.
One thing for sure, it’s a traffic stopper.

1966 Ford GT40
Bonhams Goodwood Festival of Speed Auction
July 5th, 2019
Estimate: $1,600,000 – $2,300,000
Raced in the 1960’s by two gone but not forgotten racing legends, Australian Frank Gardner and Kiwi Denny Hulme, this 1966 Ford GT40 has been painstakingly restored between 2007 and 2017 using twenty per cent old chassis parts and only period-correct original or new-old-stock parts fitted, most of which came with their own provenance. It’s presented in period correct specification and is the result of the vendor’s lifelong GT40 obsession. After making do with replicas in the past he sought the real thing, ultimately acquiring Chassis P/1042. It’s now painted in the colours of the Sidney Taylor Racing Team.
