Strong showing throughout with just two out of 26 cars failing to find a home
Shannons held their latest seasonal classic car auction in Sydney last night, with a strong showing throughout the range with just two cars failing to find a new home.
A Manual 2005 Monaro CV8-Z (Lot 22) topped out with a high bid of $60,000, but wasn’t quite enough to meet reserve. A 1967 Jaguar E-Type 4.3 Series 1 (Lot 43) presented beautifully restored and drew a quick flurry of bids early on, opening at $120,000 but topping out at $135,000.
There were a few standout over-achievers however: at the affordable end, a gorgeous 1982 Mercedes-Benz 280CE (Lot 7) fetched $7,500 over its very attractive top end estimate, selling for $19,500.
The sole Japanese offering of the night, a rare 1995 Mazda RX-7 FD SP Coupe (Lot 11) – originally estimated to fetch up to $60,000 – ended up selling for $74,000 amidst intense bidding interest both online, on phones, and in person.
Another standout result came in the form of a 1967 Ford XR Falcon GT (Lot 42) which sold for $182,000 – a whopping $62,000 over its top-end estimate.
Fetching an eye-watering $105,000 above estimate was the penultimate lot of the night – an incredibly rare right-hand drive 1971 Fiat Dino 2400 Spyder (Lot 55), selling for $280,000.
The night closed on a rare and desirable high-wing mirror left-hand drive 1986 Ferrari Testarossa. On offer for no reserve, someone may have snagged a relative bargain on this iconic red-head. Originally estimated for $180,000-$240,000, the 80s icon sold for $152,000 – less than half of equivalent RHD market values.
Shannons next classic auction lands in Melbourne on September 23. Stay tuned on tradeuniquecars.com.au for all of your auction news and previews.
