Next event combines over 100 lots from Sydney and Melbourne
Shannons’ next big classic car auction follows an entirely different process to usual, with the entire event going online on May 20 and lasting for two weeks.
Thanks to health concerns over Covid-19, the company has decided to combine its Sydney and Melbourne events into one big online exercise with over 100 lots on offer.
The offerings range from memorabilia, through to collectible numberplates, motorcycles and of course a wide range of cars.
Among the memorabilia, something that caught our eye is what looks like a 1930s era Ford V8 dealership emblem, estimated at $200-400.
As for heritage numberplates, there is a solid selection on offer, with the prize for the most valuable going to NSW 280, estimated at $160-190,000.
There are seven mostly British classic motorcycles on offer. Among the highlights is a 1961 Triumph T120 pegged at $15-18,000, plus a 1960 Harley-Davidson panhead Duo Glide at $20-24,000. We suspect the latter would be very good buying even at the top of that range.
As for cars, it’s a fairly overwhelming choice on offer, with something to suit most tastes. A couple of Aussie cars caught our attention: a 1970 HG Holden Belmont panel van running a manual box and a six in the snout, estimated at $15-20,000; plus a 1971 Chrysler Charger R/T with that sexy triple-carb six in the nose, for around $95-105,000.
Porsche fanatics will have a bit of a field day with this event. We couldn’t walk past the locally-delivered 1977 930 Turbo, looking smart at an estimate of $140-170,000.
Also high on our Euro list is the 1984 Ferrari 400i. More grand tourer than outright sports weapon, this big coupe runs a V12 with auto in the nose and, at an estimate of $60-70,000, could be a very cost-effective entry into Ferrari ownership.
Estimates start as low as $12k with a lot of cars in the mid to high teens, so you don’t necessarily need to be rolling in cash to have a go.
