Vintage and Prestige are proud to offer this 1903 Mors 24/32HP (5,000cc) Covered Double Phaeton For Sale. Registration:BS 8026 Chassis - details above Engine - details above Dated by the VCC: 1903 This incredible piece of motoring history comes to us from long-term ownership and in excellent mechanical condition; the Brighton run is not a race but if it was, this would be a serious competitor. Owned by Mr William Pollock of the Pollock auto showcase Pennsylvania from 50s up until 1981. Purchased by renowned collector John Mozart and sold to the current vendor in 1986. The car was purchased with a ticket to the 1986 Brighton run which was completed successfully. During the run they noticed that excess oil was burning. They removed the cylinder blocks, had them crack tested. The cylinders were bored and lined, and all the pistons were fitted with new manufactured rings. Radiator was removed, flushed and cleaned, Gearbox was removed and fully overhauled, including new bearings and seals. Transmission brake assembly and shoes were overhauled. Every year there has been 2-3months worth of preparation before each run, they have completed over 20 runs with not a single DNF! This same preparation has been carried out prior to us collecting the vehicle so she is ready to drive. The body is a magnificent one-off design Covered Double Phaeton, she is magnificent from every angle! There is an abundance of brass covering the front of the car; factory fitted Phare Ducellier oval headlamps, Auteroche side lamps, Bleriot Spotlamp, Boa constrictor horn and all of the badges you could ever want! The dashboard is again full of interesting items; there is a period fire extinguisher to the N/S and a modern one to the O/S (one for show and one for just in case), the central lubrication system that works by being pressurised by hot water is fitted to the centre with the central greasing system next to it. There are large period brass mirrors to either side. The overall look of the red paintwork and rubber matting is patinated and original, if only the car could speak, we would have some remarkable stories spanning some 116 years. The buttoned leatherwork clearly has been well treated as it is all in excellent condition and comfortable to sit it. There are neatly folded side screens that simply roll down and protect you from the inclement weather. The rear passengers are completely covered and entomb themselves in the rear warmth and comfort; the driver and passenger however may end up with a slightly damp leg and arm. To the roof you will see a beautiful selection of period luggage, which was carefully purchased over a matter of years, this fits in the roof rails with millimetres to spare, and even has a tonneau cover to protect it. Even the luggage is well thought out and cared for! There is also a provision and straps to carry spare tyres on the roof, tucked away underneath the rear seat and in the N/S running board box are more inner tubes than you would eve need on one journey. To the rear is another large storage trunk which with brass finishings and body colour paintwork. Underneath the bonnet lies a 4 cylinder, 5 litre masterpiece! Once shown how, the starting procedure is simple; just release the de-compression lever at the right time and she fires instantly. The engine is a T head with aluminium cylinder blocks, there are 4 forward speeds, double chain drive, plain bushed wheels and an easily released Sprague for hill holding. The London to Brighton Veteran Car Run is 54 miles, we would suggest that once you have completed this with ease then carry on driving, take a ferry to France and find out how capable this incredible Mors really is. The way she drives is well ahead of its time and there are cars 10/15 years newer that are not as advanced. In our showroom and ready for viewing. Vintage and Prestige are proud to offer this 1903 Thornycroft 20HP 4 Cylinder Double Phaeton For Sale. Registration: AA 575 Chassis no: BZ 14 Engine no: BZ 14 This incredible motor car comes to us with the finest of histories having been owned by Mr Tom Thornycroft (one of the companies founders) up until 1957, and has had only 4 owners from new! Mr John Brown purchased the car in 1957, he then sold the car to Mr John Carter but must have missed this incredible machine dearly as he purchased her back. The current owners have been the custodians since 1987 and can be credited for the immaculate condition you see her in today. They have kindly sent a detailed list of the work carried out under their ownership: Full nut and bolt restoration, including full stripping of body from chassis Engine and gearbox removed. Fully enclosed side screen system made. This Thornycroft has been maintained perfectly and has a 100% completion record for the London to Brighton Classic Car Run. The appearance of this beautiful brass car truly does take some beating, every part of the car has its own character or flare, it would certainly be a challenge to improve the look. The paintwork is finished to an extremely high standard in red; there is a yellow coachline all around the car, which helps to highlight the shape of this Double Phaeton Coachwork. The rear section of the coachwork is completely original to the car and like so many was taken off in winter months and stored, the front section has been rebuilt to the exact original design to restore her to the former glory. The closer you look the more detail you notice; the Thornycroft step plates, the discreet spare wheel, the 5 stage rear wings, it goes on and on. The look with the pram hood up is exceptional and easily operated by one person. There is also a side screen system that completely encloses the car and allows for almost dry motoring. The Connolly leather is buttoned to the backs and finished to the highest of standards, this certainly is a driveable car but finished to a concours standard! Once you finish looking around the exterior details, you finally get to the engine. 2.5 litres, 4 cylinders and 3 gears, this is a capable car. Having completed the Brighton run on many occasions with 6 people on board, you can gently breeze past the lesser cylinder cars (no names mentioned) who are all jumping out to push on Burgess hill. The operation is simple, a tickle of the carburettor, a flick of the ignition system and she is ready to go; in the early morning when you are full of energy you can turn her over on the handle and feel her fire up straight away, however later in the day when you are feeling slightly more lethargic, a discreet finger on the hidden button will bring her to life instantly and you will not even here the starter working. This vehicle truly is an incredible is a piece of driveable history, in our showroom and ready for viewing.
