Vintage and prestige are proud to offer this 1931 Lagonda 2-Litre Supercharged Low Chassis Tourer For Sale. Registration: PL 5560 Chassis no: OH9795 Engine no: 1541 Type: 2B . T2 Having established its reputation by winning the Moscow - St Petersburg Reliability Trial of 1910 with a 30hp six, Lagonda concentrated mainly on the production of light cars before reverting to sporting and luxury models in the mid-1920s with the introduction of the 14/60. The latter abandoned the firm's traditional in-unit gearbox in favour of a midships-mounted transmission, but of greater technical interest was the engine. Designed by Arthur Davidson, the 2-litre 'four' featured twin camshafts, mounted high in the block, operating inclined valves in hemispherical combustion chambers. Power output of this advanced design was a highly respectable 60bhp. For the 1929 season, a 'low chassis' Speed Model was introduced, featuring revisions to the frame's front end and a higher-compression engine fitted with twin carburettors. The Speed Model had resulted from the factory's Le Mans effort of 1928, when the 2-Litre driven by Andre D'Erlanger and Douglas Hawkes had finished 11th overall in the 24-Hour endurance classic. A classic example of racing improving the breed, the 'low chassis' 2-litre possessed markedly superior handling characteristics courtesy of its lower centre of gravity. For all its virtues, Davidson's engine was limited by its tortuous induction tracts and in 1930 a supercharged version was introduced to overcome this deficiency. The 'blower' was mounted vertically in front of the engine, which was fitted with a stronger crankshaft, while a 3-litre rear axle beefed up the transmission. A Powerplus supercharger was specified at first, but most 'blown' 2-litres came with a Cozette. Thus equipped, a 'low chassis' 2-litre was capable of up to 90mph. PL 5560 is in our showroom ready for viewing and offered in excellent all matching numbers condition. Mechanically the engine is a work of art, and after a fastidious restoration just by listening you can tell that the quality of craftsmanship has been to the highest of levels. Appearance wise the engine bay is a clean as the body and interior. Inside she is trimmed in maroon leather which beautifully contrasts the black exterior. The rear seats are latched at the top which conceals a full array of side screens allowing for wet weather motoring without a soaked right arm and disgruntled passengers. A VSCC certificate is also provided showing that this model has not been modified in any way other than practical hazard lights allowing this to pass the German TUV test. 1922 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost Henri Binder Victoria hood. Chassis number: 70YG Registration number: XO275 A magnificent silver ghost coming to us out of 4 decades of ownership where it has been dry stored in a small collection of cars. The last deceased owner purchased it from a man who had disinterred it from a French barn where it had been laid up during the war years with its wheels stored elsewhere to stop it being requisitioned. The coachwork is by famed Parisian Coachbuilder Henri Binder. The car has a large victoria style hood to the rear which we were unable to erect fully during photography due to the impediment of a low beam in the garage. A further hood connects the windscreen to the front of the Victoria affording rudimentary protection to all occupants. The car was parked & mounted on axle blocks many years ago when in fine running order having had an engine rebuild prior to lay up; We discovered it sitting next to a 1973 11,000 mile Jaguar e type which also was unused & purchased in 1977 with just 10,000 miles on the odometer. We are about to service & fully recommission the car in the next weeks & will also conduct our usual full photographic shoot once the service is complete & had a full valet. The car has wonderful patinated Japanned black leather to the seats & hood. Paint is a dark maroon over black & is in very good order. The door handles are of particular note, being wrought in a beautifully ornamented manner. Watch this space as the work & photography progresses. 1926 Bentley 3 litre with Vanden Plas Style Body. Chassis number: 1155 Engine Number: 1170 Registration number: YM4224 Under the present family ownership for 82 years!!!! We are selling this car on behalf of the grand daughter of the man who bought it in 1937 no less. She has enjoyed the car & very ably driven it during the last decade or so but now wishes to pass it on to its next custodian. This 3 litre Bentley represnts Bentley motoring in its purest form. Light powerful & responsive are the words I would use to describe it with a "Go anywhere" feel to it. The car benefitted from a full overhaul some years ago leaving the engine in fine running order. To drive an early 3 litre Bentley is to experience the marque in its purest form which became lost as the cars grew bigger & heavier. The car is all matching numbers with the exception of the steering box which was swapped for an earlier one decades ago during the years when these cars were used as daily transport & owners were more hung up on being able to use the car as opposed to making sure their numbers all matched. Thus the car has its original engine, A type gear box, chassis & axles etc, The radiator is the original unit from the Galley Radiator company; the instruments the originals as supplied to the car when new. The car was rebodied many years ago & comes with an original Bentley red print set of plans from which the body was constructed. Indeed a beautiful job was done on the ash framing matching exactly to the original Bentley Prints dating back to 1925 which come with the car. Also a 1929 pattern drilled split skirt piston comes from the car which was removed during the engine rebuild when new pistons were fitted. The real beauty of this car is the used & patinated feel it has to it. It has clearly been loved, cherished & used as its maker intended. The car starts readily & displays 17lbs or so of oil pressure at all times. Temperature from the Boyce Motometer on the radiator stays well in the green at all times. A faded black hood is fitted in very serviceable condition. A similarly faded full split tonneau cover also comes with the car. There is a removable rear rack & luggage box along with a full set of side screens that stow in front of the luggage box. The car comes with a massive history file with correspondence dating back to the 1950's. We will photograph this in due course aftre it arrives from the onwer who is making copies of it due it being such a part of the family history. Originally a Weyman saloon, the car suffered an accident in the 1930's with damage to the rear quarter. The grandfather of the current owner purchased the car & fitted a saloon body from a Talbot to it & the car then provided fast family transport for many years before the current VDP body was painstakingly constructed using a traditional ash frame. The body is covered in maroon rexine fabric with the original wings painted black. A large & mellifluous klaxon is fitted to the running board ready to bray out ones arrival. The front number plate we notice is loosely attached to the fornt crossmember & has a habit of blowing back close to horizontal when at speed; an earley attempt at speed camera avoidance perhaps??? The car is fitted with 21" beaded edge rims & tyres to the front which helps account for the light direct steering. Delightful period details abound such as the original rev counter coupling coming our of the back of the engine. A gallery of large high-resolution pictures may be viewed on our website. 1957 Bentley S1 Continental H.J. Mulliner Fastback Chassis number: BC46BG Registration number: 721GUV Body Number: 5955 For sale on behalf of the current lady owner, a picture of whom we have washing the car in a Scotish river in 1968 no less. Provenance does not come any better then this spanning a half century. The car was purchased from Rippon Brothers in Leeds by the current owners father when it was just 10 years old. The car is finished in Masons Black having had a bare metal respray & all body work issues attended to at that time documented by a photographic record. To the interior are the original maroon Connolly hides in fine order throughout. The woodwork has been removed & re-lacquered. The car comes with original bills, green log book & hand book. A massive history file comes with the car showing vast expenditure & an open cheque book approach to maintaining & restoring the car. Indeed the last bill from the esteemed P & A Wood brothers in June of this month comes to no leass then £26,120.88 pounds & is representative of the kind of maintenance the car has regularly received. To drive this car at speed is to understand why they were accorded the Moniker "Continental"; a sobriquet entirely befitting of the car. At 90 to 100 MPH the car is silent, composed & will run all day at such speeds devouring the miles at an uncanny rate of speed. Gear Changes are seamless, the ride supple & tuned. This car was the subject of a magazine article detailing the family's ownership over the years up to the present day pictures of which are on our site. Opportunities like this to buy a low ownership Bentley S1 Fastback in impeccable condition do not come along often!!! Full gallery available at: - details above Viewing by appointment only.
