David Browns ambition to take Aston Martin to new heights required a more powerful V8 engine to replace their established straight six. Whilst the DBS went into production in 1967 it wasnt until two years later that the car received the new, more powerful, V8. The V8 powered DBS ensured Aston could offer one of the fastest production cars in the world. Unfortunately, this was not enough to return Aston Martin to profit and as such David Brown sold the company to Company Developments in 1972. After Company Developments acquisition of Aston Martin work started on a comprehensive facelift of the DBSV8. The main visual differences were the adoption of single headlamps and a revised front grille. Now known as the AMV8, the car retained the Bosch mechanical fuel injection system until August 1973, when four twin choke Weber carburettors were fitted, together with updates to the interior trim, a bigger bonnet bulge to clear the carburettor air box and a re-designed fuel tank to allow more luggage space. Powered by the Tadek Marek designed all aluminium 5.3 litre V8 engine producing in excess of 310 bhp, the AMV8 was capable of accelerating from rest to 60 mph in just 6.1 secs and on to a claimed top speed of 140 mph. The Aston Martin V8 offered here at Autostorico is 1974 Series III example which was supplied new in the UK. Finished in Blue metallic with Blue leather interior this rare manual car has covered 121,912 miles. This collectable Aston Martin is made rarer still by the addition of a factory fit sunroof. The car has been in the same family ownership for the last 17 years and during that time has benefited from a mechanical overhaul. The current owner has had the car out in Sardinia for the last two years and has recently driven the car back to the UK without it missing a beat. Whilst the car is mechanically sound it would benefit from some cosmetic attention as the body work is starting to show signs of corrosion. The car comes complete with an owners manual and history file detailing mechanical works completed over the years by the likes of Pugsley & Lewis Ltd, Trinity Engineering and Mike Morgan. The car is also supplied with a number of previous MOTs to corroborate the mileage. Viewing strictly by appointment only.

  • Auction: 23rd Nov 2019 - Historics Auctioneers - Mercedes Benz World November 2019 Sale

Touring of Milan, a leading light in automotive coachwork development and design was invited to produce the new Interceptor and, in 1966, it was unveiled at the London Motor Show. Vignale built the body in the early years but it soon came in-house to the coach builders at West Bromwich, Birmingham. With Chryslers 6.276cc, V8 engine up front and connected to a super-smooth automatic gearbox, it quickly became the must-have motorcar amongst the cognoscente. At the same time, a four-wheel drive version was offered, the FF. Developed by the Harry Ferguson Research Company, it also came with Dunlop Maxaret anti-lock brakes with leather upholstery, reclining front seats and walnut veneer as standard features. The Motor recorded a top speed of 140mph with 100mph arriving in 19 seconds, impressive when driving in four wheel drive luxury. It is entirely appropriate that the striking design of a Jensen Interceptor should be complemented by an equally striking colour scheme. Listed as Mango in the colourchart, this is, in fact, a Jenson option although infrequently seen but entirely apt. The accompanying paperwork shows export to the US and repatriation back in 1990. In excellent condition throughout and with matching engine and chassis numbers, this example was the subject of a mild restoration in 2008/9 at classic car specialists in Cheshire and has only completed 2,500 miles since then. It has clearly been cherished over the years as would naturally be the case with only three recorded owners in the registration document. Shod with the correct Rostyle wheels and Pirelli Cinturato rubber as well as the expensive option of Cotton reel headrests, the intrinsic quality is extremely good throughout right up to the new front calipers, new service and new MoT test certificate. This was a supercar ten years ahead of its time when manufactured a super car today.
