This lovely RHD Home Market Triumph TR3A was built on the 2nd February 1959, despatched on the 13th February 1959 and supplied new by Macharg, Rennie and Lindsay Limited in Glasgow. Our TR3A was supplied new in Silverstone Grey with Red vynide upholstery, Black hood, disc wheels and registered new WGB 546. The car today retains a great deal of originality and is a superb driving, beautifully aged honest example that looks a real time warp in good cosmetic order and is exceptionally strong mechanically. We can trace mileage back to 34702 in 1988 confirming to us the car has covered 20,000 miles in the past thirty years. There is an impressive, comprehensive history file detailing expenditure throughout the 1990's and in 2001 the TR3A was treated to a light body restoration that included new sills and wing sections. The car was then treated to a re-spray in its original colour of Silverstone Grey and a photo record of the work is with the car. It would appear this is the cars only real restoration asit retains so much originality and the original seats would suggest this has been a very well-kept car that has likely covered low mileage as suggested by the history file. From 2012 to 2016 WGB 546 was kept off the road unused and in late 2016 the car came to us in part exchange. We spent in the region of 6,000 on the car that included five new tyres, wishbone and inner arm bushes, new front brake discs and pads, steering rack conversion (original steering box still with the car), replaced the differential nose seal, new engine mountings, new thermostat, thermostat housing and gasket, new coolant hoses, re-conditioned radiator, new cooling fan, new distributor cap, HT leads, coil, rotor arm, all fluids replaced, fuel filter changed, a new dynamo and regulator box fitted and the flasher unit and indicator switch were also replaced. A new set of sidescreens, a brand new hood, door locks and new windscreen seals were also fitted. Since late 2016 the TR3A has been in Halifax with long term customersand is absolutely on the button and driving lovely. The engine sounds terrific with very good oil pressure, it runs and performs superbly. The four-speed gearbox changes up and down smoothly, the steering is far more advanced than standard and the car handles and brakes well. WGB 546 looks like an original car with its nicely aged yet bright 17-year-old paintwork, panels are lovely and straight, gaps are very good and the brightwork in fine fettle. The interior has an ultra-original, honest feel and is lovely throughout, the gauges all work and the weather equipment is excellent. This is a fine example, its very correct, largely original and drives superbly. The car presents well and it has the provenance of being a UK car retaining its original registration mark, original colours and many original features. Price: 29,995

This late Triumph TR3A was despatched on the 27th July 1961 and registered in 1962. The car was sold new by Standard Triumph Motor Company Inc, Boston, USA and from the vehicle Heritage Certificate the car was shipped from Southampton to USA aboard the vessel 'American Guide'. The TR3A was ordered new with heater, whitewall tyres and tonneau cover. Our TR has spent most of its life in the US, and it wasn't until the summer of 2014 the car made its way back to the UK. The car arrived in the UK in excellent mechanical order, in well-presented condition. The vehicle was soon sold to an Italian Doctor, a collector based in the North of Italy. Since then the car has been further improved with paintwork, ensuring it has a stunning, gleaming finish and some chrome work. Since coming back from Italy, in 2017 the TR has had 9000 spent on a full right hand drive conversion to include new steering column, steering rack and outer and inner steering shafts. Further recent work includes re-trimming the seats, dashboard and original steering wheel and new over-riders. Mechanical work includes new front brake calipers and brake pads, rear brakes shoes and wheel cylinders, rebuilding carburettors, new thermostat and electric fan, new control box, wiper arms, clutch pipe and new accelerator pedal. On the road the car performs superbly and handles superbly. The engine sounds terrific, holds excellent oil pressure and feels very responsive. Gear changes are slick, the syncro's are excellent and the car is great fun to drive. The TR3A presents very well with an excellent hood, sidescreens, Minilight style wheels, lovely paintwork, body panels are exceptionally straight, the underbody superb and the interior looks excellent with its freshly trimmed upholstery. ![CDATA[The Triumph TR3 was built between 1955 and was usually supplied as an open two-seater, an occasional rear seat and bolt on steel hard top were available as extras. It was powered by a 1991cc engine which initially produced 95bhp increasing to 100bhp at 5000rpm. The four speed manual transmission could be supplemented by an overdrive unit on the top three ratios electrically operated and controlled by a switch on the dash. In 1956, the front brakes changed from drum to disc becoming the first British series production car to be so fitted. Because of these disc brakes, the TR3 and subsequent TR3As became known for their superior braking ability making it an autocross favorite. In 1957, the TR3 was replaced by an updated version, the TR3A. The updates included new wide front grille, exterior door handles, lockable boot handle and came with a full tool kit as standard, although the TR3As still retained the 1991cc engine. During the 1950s, Triumph TR3s enjoyed a very successful competitionprofile in the United States with drivers such as Kas Kastner, the well known Triumph US Competitions Manager, coming to the fore. Official factory trace records show that this car was privately ordered in the U.K. as a personal export by Mr. J Donahue of Pittsburgh, as what must have been one of the earliest of the 3A derivatives and with a very full competition specification. The records also show that this attractive open topped sports car left the factory with competition springs and dampers, an aluminium sump and special sump guard from the special order options available directly via the Competitions Department. She has subsequently been sharpened up with a conversion to rack and pinion steering and benefits from the highly desirable overdrive transmission unit. This example must surely have been intended for some very serious driving or, more likely, active competition in the thriving local racing scene Stateside. This stunning Triumph presents well in British Racing Green with piped blackleather seats and is offered to auction with a factory Heritage Certificate and a V5C registration certificate. This car is described by the vendor as possibly the best example of a Triumph TR3A available in today's market place.]]
