Vintage and Prestige are proud to offer this 1916 Talbot 4CY 15/20 "The Qantas flyer" For Sale. Registration: SV 9179 Chassis no: 8529 Engine no: 130 The car has been fully restored and as a result is presented in impeccable condition. Exterior paintwork is blue with red buttoned leather adorns the interior seating surfaces. Powered by a 2.600cc four-cylinder engine which develops some 38bhp. The car was built in May 1916 and dispatched three weeks later to the Canada Motor and Cycle Agency in Brisbane, Australia. This Talbot which served as Qantas Airways first car whilst in the early days of business. The car is fitted with a rudimentary flatbed loading deck and was used by Qantas for trips to the outback as a service and rescue vehicle, repairing downed aircraft and collecting crew; a role it performed until at least 1927. The restoration of the vehicle was put on hold due to lack of funds and the car was sold. It turned up with a Scottish collector and during 2001 the restoration work commenced. The car was re-bodied as a balloon car to recover balloonist, with a rear deck designed to carry the balloon basket. The refurbishment was completed during May 2002 in time for the 4CY to contest the Liege-Rome-Liege Retrospective Rally, finishing in Venice, in the very capable hands of long-time Mille Miglia racer and collector, Warren Kennedy. The two-seater made light work of the event and complete each stage with alacrity. It has since completed various other European rallies including the 'Circuit des Ardennes'. As well as a comfortable 55mph cruising speed accessed via its four-speed transmission, 'SV 9179' boasts an 'instant start' mechanism whereby a suitable spark is sent to all four cylinders which burst into life providing they are charged with sufficient fuel/air and the car has been running recently (electric starters were still far from commonplace). This charming Talbot has covered circa 10,000 miles since the restoration was completed and has recently had its rear axle overhauled with a new crown wheel and pinion. ![CDATA[Introduced in 1936, the Clement-Talbot 10hp was promoted as 'Britain's most exclusive light car'. A product of the Rootes Group, the newcomer was based on a modified Hillman Aero Minx chassis. The Clement-Talbot and then the Sunbeam Motor Car Company businesses fell into the hands of Rootes in 1935 and the new owner's strategy was clearly to use the prestige of the Talbot name for selling larger numbers of lower priced cars. This Rootes' Talbot Ten was one of the first products of the Rootes strategy which intended to open Talbot's planned shift down-market and add a genuine small car to its proposed range. A star of the 1936 Motor Show it was a lengthened Hillman Aero Minx with a stronger chassis that was all updated at short notice by Talbot's Georges Roesch and rebadged, so adding another variant to the existing middle market saloon, the Hillman Minx. Reviewers described the car as an attractive refined and well-equipped small car. This lovely restored four-seater convertible sportstourer is offered with a fantastic amount of history which includes copies of the original promotional documents and a copy of the original, hand-written, factory ledger showing the car to have been delivered new in July of 1936 to a Mr. Atkinson. Amazingly, the car has only had four owners throughout its 82 year life with the latest, a South Eastern former club organiser, having taken eight years to restore the car to its present glory. Whilst not totally original and sporting an upgraded Talbot 80 overhead valve engine with hydraulically assisted brakes, this wonderful example comes supplied with an original specification side valve engine that has been fully rebuilt and is ready to be fitted if desired. The car displays its original registration number, drives without fault and the engine is barely audible at tickover. The Whittingham and Mitchel body is in very good condition and the car presents very well in Jaguar British Racing Green with brown interior, black hood and new tonneau cover. Thecar has been on several long driving trips, including to France and reportedly never skipped a beat. This Talbot Ten comes supplied with its V5C registration document, original handbook, plenty of marque and model history, photographic restoration record, award trophies, rebuilt side valve engine and even the copy of the original factory order ledger.]]

![CDATA[In the mid-1970s, the British automotive industry was in crisis, marred by bad management, frequent strikes and decreasing competitiveness compared to the increasingly successful Japanese automakers. It took its toll on Chrysler UK, which was the name given to the former Rootes Group after its takeover by the US based Chrysler Corporation. In particular, the Linwood facility was generating losses due to many reasons, including under-utilised capacity. The Talbot Sunbeam Lotus was one of the most exciting hot hatchbacks to emerge from the 1970s. Chrysler originally commissioned Lotus Engineering to produce an effective entrant for international Group 4 rallying to compete with the dominant Ford Escort RS and this required that Talbot produced an appropriate road car for homologation reasons. Lotus took a 1.6GLS shell, installed a 2.2 litre version of the Lotus 16-valve four-cylinder engine and a five-speed ZF gearbox, and the Talbot Sunbeam Lotus was born. This Sunbeam Lotus was one ofthelast series II cars originally produced in Moonstone Blue and boasts just 58,000 miles from new. The previous owner had owned ABC 435Y for eight years and spent nearly £40,000 creating this rally homage. He had commissioned Phil Davison (Ravic Engines) to build the engine to full 'works' specification. Phil, of course, was a man that used to build engines for Henry Toivonen and Stig Blomqvist for the Sunbeam works team that lead them to an RAC Rally win. The car has wanted for nothing and clearly been lavished with an open chequebook approach therefore today it presents fantastically with the ability to pull a crowd anywhere it goes. This car would scare any modern hot hatch with 212bhp recorded on a Dyno, it is still useable in any rally stage or hill climb you may wish to dominate. The car comes complete with its original supplying dealers sales invoice from 1982 for £6,900 and it still sits on its original registration number. The full specification on the cars rebuild is detailed ininvoiceswhich are coupled to fabulous provenance but included; Helix clutch and plate, rebuilt carburettors ITG custom made flame trap filter Works stainless manifold HTD Pulleys Lotus 910 cam carriers Fully Aeroquip hosed Holley fuel pump H & H Distributor Works alloy Radiator Bias pedal box AP Racing 280mm Bells, discs and calipers Grp4 Alloy hubs with Grp4 studs all round Gaz Gold adjustable struts Works TCAs and brake reaction rods Image split rim alloy wheels with Toyo tyres One piece propshaft Rear LSD axle with 4.4 diff This is a fabulous piece of motor engineering created by the very best in Sunbeam circles responsible for Talbot folklore. The vendor had even sourced the original fabric to retrim the original seats and thus this, a collectable car in standard guise, now presents as an opportunity to own what we consider to be one of the very best. Well known in the Talbot Sunbeam Lotus circles we strongly advise viewing to appreciate the quality of this example.]]
