The Sunbeam motor car company originated in 1899 in Wolverhampton and was to produce vehicles of high quality through the Edwardian and Vintage periods, with many great sporting achievements. Their finest hour being the Land Speed Record set by Sir Henry Seagrave at Daytona Beach in March 1927, with the streamlined 1000 hp car reaching 203.79 mph. During the second half of the 1920s, one of their most popular models was the Sixteen (16.9 hp) which was available between 1926 30. The motor car offered here is of 1929 manufacture, with Drophead Coupe Coachwork by James Young. In very good sound order, having had much money spent on it during the past few years with marque specialist J.C Engineering, the car drives very well and has recently returned from an event in France. A comfortable four seater with very good luggage space in its capacious boot, this car is ideal for long distance events and touring. The Sunbeam resided for many years in Australia, being repatriated around six years ago. The hood is well fitting and reported to be completely watertight in inclement weather. A slightly higher rear axle ratio makes for relaxed cruising at 50 plus MPH and the car has an easy gear change, unlike many Vintage motor cars. Ready to go and in pleasantly useable condition, the car has much documentation including numerous receipts for recent work, a copy of the Workshop Manual and Drivers Handbook. For more information please call me on 07710-364945 or 01420-474919. We are located south of the Hindhead Tunnel (A3) between Petersfield and Alton. Viewing strictly by prior appointment please. Delivery can be arranged at very competitive rates.

![CDATA[Although comparatively late on the scene in motor car manufacture, the Wolverhampton-based Sunbeam factory quickly established a fine reputation alongside Lanchester, Wolseley, Austin and Daimler at the heart of the escalating Midlands-based motor industry. The 12/16 hp model of the Edwardian era was conventional in all respects, with a sturdy, four cylinder and side valve power unit, displacing 2,413cc and rated at 15.9hp. Final drive was via a four-speed gate change gearbox with worm drive rear axle, and 12/16 hp models generally carried elegant factory coachwork which was offered in tourer, two-seater, landaulette and cabriolet versions. BH 1319 was purchased by our vendor in 2011 and this elegant tourer had spent the preceding 37 years in a private museum collection. Its early history is not recorded however the registration number suggests first registration in Buckinghamshire and a dashboard plaque suggest it was original supplied by F. Parker, Motor Dealers, of 57 High Street,Slough. VCC dating certificate no.94 confirms that this original delivery took place in 1911. Its known early history commences in post-war years when it was acquired by Wing Commander Malcolm Anderson of Bourne End, Bucks, in November 1946. Anderson was to retain the car until 1952, taking part in the VSCC Eastbourne Rally and Concours d'Élégance in March 1947 and VCC events in 1947 and 1948. Three subsequent owners are recorded in Putney, Rugby and Kilsby before the car is recorded in the ownership of well-known Nuneaton collector, Reg Parker, in 1970. During his ownership it was photographed and illustrated in Peter Hugo's book, Private Motor Car Collections of Great Britain, published in 1973. This car is one of the earliest and most original 12/16s and it presents extremely well in cream with green leather upholstery. The car sits on 815 x 105mm wheels and tyres with a spare wheel and tyre mounted on the running board, a further spare wheel is offered with a suitable wheel spanner. A twogallon petrol can sits on the nearside running board. This four speed car has a Rotax switch panel with volt meter and ammeter and a Stewart speedometer. This impressive vehicle has been sensitively recommissioned by JC engineering with some concessions for modern driving, these include a concealed electric starter, CAV electric headlamps and H and B electric side lamps. In addition to this work the current owner has spent nearly £30,000 on BH 1319, the list of works include a new radiator, new roof frame and cover, new clutch and over £9,000 on a rear axle upgrade. This 1911 Sunbeam is presented to auction with an interesting history file with correspondence and invoices from the 1940s and 50s, several old MoT test certificates and a V5C registration document.]]

The Sunbeam 18.2 was a bored out version of the company mainstay, the Sunbeam 16hp. The increase in bore from 67mm to 70mm gave a useful 2,398cc and was built alongside the larger engined 'New 20'. The Sunbeam 18.2 is accepted by the VSCC in their PVT (Post Vintage Thoroughbred) list showing just how well respected this model really is and expanding the wide range of events in which it can be used. This fabulous, original example was first registered on the 25th July 1931 and delivered new to a Mr Ramsey of Huyton, near Liverpool where the car spent thirty six years. GP 7592 changed hands for the first time in 1967, moving across Liverpool to Wallasey staying with its second owner 43 years. The car has wonderful provenance, not just having two owners in almost seventy years, but in also retaining a mechanical history since August 1932 when the car had 11,164 miles. The mechanical log records a complete overhaul by Challis of Manchester between the 2nd November and 10th December 1959 and records forongoing maintenance run to 1967. The rare Sunbeam was unused from 1970 to 2010 and since 2010 the car has been treated to a top end engine overhaul including new valves, springs and guides. The sump has been removed, bearings checked, the brakes overhauled, seals and hoses replaced and the water pump modified. The Sunbeam has an almost complete tool kit including a Sunbeam tyre pump which looks unused, original handbook, Autovac booklet and some lovely original documentation including the mechanical notes since 1932, original 'buff' logbook and MOT's back to 1965. The Sunbeam is substantially original, even the paintwork although the wings were restored in 1967. Also in 1967 the carpets were replaced and the wheels painted. Finding a car of this age so original is difficult these days. This has to be one of the most original 1930's cars we have owned and it has so much charm and patina. The car is in remarkably strong condition, likely as a direct result of the meticulous maintenance during thecars years in use. The first owner had been meticulous in keeping the vehicle records up to date and during its time off the road from 1970, the Sunbeam was dry stored and kept in fine fettle. GP 7295 has an excellent strong chassis and underside, solid bodywork, largely original paintwork that shows its age yet does not detract from what is a wonderful beautiful car. The car has been treated to some brightwork over the years and has recently been fitted with new tyres. The interior is wonderful with a delightful patina. The upholstery is a clear indication of how well the car has been cared for and maintained. The inside of the Sunbeam retains quality, luxury and a wonderful honest feel. The Sunbeam boasts a strong engine, robust gearbox and generally very good mechanicals. Brakes have been recently overhauled, the car drives incredibly well with good performance coming from the 16hp engine and this is a pre-war that can be regularly used and has proven reliable. GP 7295 comes with a VSCCeligibility document from 2011 and is certainly capable of long distance touring and regular use. This is not a show car, but an incredibly usable Sunbeam that has to be one of the most original of its type left in existence. The car has everything in terms of originality, provenance, paperwork, reliability, usability and of course the quality and luxury coming from a top class British manufacturer of its day. This is an unrepeatable opportunity not to be missed. The Sunbeam is now a car we now know well having sold it to the last owner in Northern Ireland in early 2017. The Sunbeam has been used for weekend fun motoring for the previous owner and his family, covering lots of local miles and proving completely reliable. Many enthusiasts will advise not to paint the car and retain its oriignality and for this reason we are leaving this decision to the next owner. This Sunbeam would look a show piece with a full strip down and re-paint and would probably command a value closer to 45,000 oncompletion. This is something we are happy to discuss with potential buyers should it be an option. Price: 34,995
