1934 MEB ROYAL RUBY 3 WHEELER TOURER BOAT TAIL EVOCATIONA delightful 3 wheeler Tourer finished in red and cream with red leather trim. This 2 owner car has covered an incredible 130 miles from new and is tax and Mot exempt. The early 20th century saw many motorised 3 wheeler tricycles appearing including Ariel, Brough, Harley and Royal Ruby. However, the Royal Ruby was the only vehicle ever made in Bolton, Lancs and was the brainchild of a young engineer Maurice Edwards who came up with the design of a cycle car in 1927. He approached Albert Horrocks, of Motor Mart who, having purchased the name of Royal Ruby from the defunct Altringham Co was already assembling motor cycles. Horrocks financed the prototype and Edwards started a business building the tricycle under the name MEB Royal Ruby. Due to high costs, production was slow and in 1934 the Company ceased trading so very few of these vehicles were made. At the time, racing drivers Douglas Hawkes and Gwenda Stewart set some 750cc records with anMEB at Montlhery. This Royal Ruby Evocation was built at the request of Boltons MP from plans found in the town library. The vehicle has been built to a high standard with no expense spared and we estimate it cost around 30,000-40,000 to complete. Unfortunately, none of the original MEBs are known to be in existence today making this vehicle a rare find. The car is registered correctly with DVLA as a Royal Ruby and was completed during the new Millennium with appearances at events in Lancs ever since. In 2007 the council sold the car to its current custodian. The vehicle, which has covered only 130 miles from new is powered by all new mechanics when built with a Citroen 2CV engine unit driving the rear wheel by belt and chain and is formed by other parts such as Austin and BSA. The history folder includes, build images, 1925 road test report from light car and cycle car, 1928 road test from Motorcycle, 1925 archive photos of the car and the factory, current V5, folders and write ups. Fitted withperiod wire heels and sidesteps and a valuable transferable registration number. What a brilliant addition to a classic car collection and a real little head turner. 12995
