Ebony Metallic with Tan Leather, Originally supplied by Rolls Royce Motors, Lyndhurst, New Jersey to the first owner in November 1984, a collector, who we believe retained the car in his collection for the first 18000 miles, and until 2009. The car was then purchased by an enthusiast in Texas where it resided until 2015 before being sold to a collector in New York having reached 26000 miles. The car remains in fabulously original and unspoilt condition, bearing its original painted fine lines, and un connolised original leather interior, along with original hood and tonneau cover. The Burr Walnut cappings have not suffered from sun bleaching at all, due to the car being kept under cover. Being a US spec car, Fuel Injection comes as standard at this year. All small and large tools are in place, and the cars originality has been so well preserved, even the warning tag is still attached to the mains battery switch in the boot ! A rare sight at this age, and testament to how careful the previousownership has been. All factory supplied handbooks and pullouts are in place, including original service book, and air conditioning operating templates, often mislaid in the early years. A copy of the original sales invoice and factory release note are also present. A nice feature of this car is the optional front Cocktail Cabinets with flasks and Tudor Crystal glasses still in place. A large service was carried out recently, including fitting new Avon Turbosteel tyres all round. All summed up, a superbly tight driving car, with virtually no signs of corrosion anywhere, presented in extremely original form. This car is right up there among the most honest and genuine examples you are likely to see offered. May P/X (Registration being retained), 69,950

1924 Rolls-Royce 20hp Barker Dr's Coupe Chassis number GMK76 Registration number: XU5999 A charming & very original car bodied in 1924 by Barker as a Doctors Coupe. This car comes to us with a massive set of bills for a full mechanical overhaul performed by marque expert Mr Graham Ashley Carter whilst the proprietor of Hofmann's of Henley. Some £38,000 worth of Hofmann's bills come with the car. As a result the engine is running as sweetly as only a properly set up 20hp can. The previous owner has just completed a final jaunt through France venturing as far as Santander putting over 2000 trouble free miles on the car. The car is finished in a putty colour with black wings. The paint is heavily patinated in some areas giving the car a very period appearance & none the worse for it. To the interior is pale grey leather in superb order extending also to the dickey seat in the rear. The hood is of Japanned black leather & is fitted with a miniscule oval rear window typical of these barker convertibles. Tidy under the bonnet; the car is fitted with a nickel bulkhead mounted Klaxon horn. The wood dash contains a full complement of instruments. The wood extends to the door tops & rear quarters in typical barker style with raised relief. I have to stress how beautifully period looking this car is & how well it drives. The car is an absolutle delight & trots willingly along at 50MPH all day long. We are performing a full service to the car prior to sale & also touching up one or two areas on the paint. The cars history is well known over the years & reads as follows: The first lady owner of GMK76 was Mrs Thomas Harrison Hughes (nee Bradley), her husband was a scion of the T & J Harrison Shipping Line which dates back to 1853 their original trade was the importation of brandy from the Charente region of France. By 1924 T&J Harrison had taken over the fleets of John T Rennie (7 ships & passenger line to Natal), Rankin-Gilmour, the Crown Line of Prentice Service & Henderson and also the fleet of Scrutton Sons & Co. In WWII Mr Harrison Hughes was knighted for his services as Director of Liner Division for the Ministry of War. The Hughes family bought their home of 34 Queen Annes Gate in 1920 after the death of Sir Edward Glenconner (Scottish industrialist) whose grandson Colin Tennant developed the Isle of Mustique, favoured by Princess Margaret, the Glenconners London home of 34 Queen Annes Gate housed their extensive art collection which included works by Reynolds, Gainsborough, Ramsay, Hoppner & Fragonard. Mrs Harrison Hughes only kept GMK76 for a few years and by 1928 the car was with Mrs Phyllis Cantrell-Hubbersty of Ragdale Hall in Leicestershire. In 1894 Queen Victoria granted Albert Cantrell Hubbersty Royal Licence to use the name of Cantrell in addition to and before that of Hubbersty & to bear the arms of Cantrell with their own arms. In 1923 Alberts son William Phillip married Phyllis Mary Hermoine Bethell she was the grand-daughter of H. Willoughby the 8th Baron Middleton & her fathers family owned Rise Park in Hull (once owned by Richard Plantagenet the Duke of Gloucester better known as Richard III.) The Cantrell-Hubbersty family were a fervent hunting family & the mainstay of the Quorn Hunt with Major Cantrell-Hubbersty being acting Master from 1940 until his death in1947 and Phyllis Cantrell-Hubbersty from 1948/51. In 1946 the chassis cards show that GMK76 is with Frederick Alfred Gatty of Overwater Hall, Carlisle (GMK76 was not the first 20hp that Alfred had owned as in 1937 he purchased GFN10); Alfred made his fortune through the development of Khaki dye which the Army had adopted during WWI. Alfred was a great collector and upon his death in 1951 the estate & contents were auctioned off amongst the 2,000 lots were 2 canons, 12 bottles of 1878 vintage cognac and a chair carved from the timbers of Nelsons flagship Foudroyant. 1936 Rolls Royce 20/25 Hooper Sports Saloon Chassis number: GTK4 Registration number: Applied for. A really exceptional 20/25 with spacious Hooper Sports Saloon coachwork. We first saw this car about 10 years ago in the collection of the late Helmut Krogman of the hanseatic port of Lubeck standing next to his silver Ghost. The car had just come out of a fastidious restoration including a bare metal respray & a full engine & mechanical rebuild. The car is finished in royal claret over black with the paint being in lovey order. To the interior is brand new maroon hide along with brand new red carpets. The burr walnut has also been removed & refinished. The car has done very very few miles since restoration as it was part of a collection of 15 or so cars with Krogman being the only driver. On the road it drives beautifully. Taut play free steering, a powerful silent engine, smooth gear changes & a pleasant undulating ride would sum it up Mechanically the car is in spot on condition. The engine starts readily & runs cool at 75 or so degrees with excellent oil pressure. The one shot lubrication system is connected & working correctly. We have conducted a service upon it due to its lack of use since Mr Krogmans passing a few years ago. Regrettably The car came to us with not a scrap of paperwork other then the German registration. Having handled othe cars from the collection, we can attest to the high standards of work that Krogman had done to the cars he owned. This is a very very late 20/25 being completed in 1936. It wears very spacious coachwork by hooper of a design more commonly found on 25/30's. The boot is very large allowing for carriage of an assortment of suitcases for touring. The car also has a large sunroof which easily slides open affording the occupants semi alfresco motoring. The quality of the Leather inside is superb with lovely document pouches fitted to the door cards. If I were to fault the car it would be on the ghastly modern fuel gauge fitted where the original was. We are currently looking for a correct period unit to replace this but do not guarantee to have found one prior to sale, although a trip to Beaulieu may rectify this. Indicators & flashers are fittted to the car in deference to the German Tuff Test. To sum up; This is a fine car in way way above average condition which clearly has had massive money spent upon it leaving it wanting for nothing. (Other then a correct petrol Gauge). It should afford the new owner years of trouble free motoring. A gallery of large high-resolution pictures may be viewed on our website.
