1915 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost London To Edinburgh Chassis number: 9AD Registration number: HLR5134 (German) In 1914 was an order for a new SIlver Ghost was placed by one Nicholas Tchinkine of Moscow Russia with Barker Torpedo coachwork specified. Due to the outbreak of hostilities, the car never made it to Russia & instead was commandeered by the War Department for use o the Kings Messenger service between Calais & the front lines. In 1919, Its days in military service over, '9AD' was offered for sale at the Olympia auction organised by the Ministry of Munitions on 5th September 1919. The sale contained quite a number of government requisitioned cars that were now surplus to needs. 9AD was one J A Wallace Esq of Hampstead, London NW and he is its first recorded owner from 26th August 1920. Around this time the car went back to Barker & had its current body fitted; that of an open drive limousine in which form it arrived in America. The car was purchased in this iteration by the famous circus impresario, John Ringling who kept the car along with several other Ghosts at his Sarasota Mansion Casa d'Zan. Upon his death, the car passed to the Sarasota Auto Museum & thence to the Imperial Palace collection before being acquired by the late Helmut Krogman of Lubeck in Germany. We first handled this car about 10 years ago. The engine had been fully rebuilt but not correctly set up. We collected the car in Lubeck, had Carl Ford of The Priory Vintage Car Co, do a full set up & service on the car dramatically improving its running & operation. After the service, we drove the car back to Lubeck by way of the then running Esbjerg ferry with the car running better & better with every mile put on it. The car is finished in a deep & lustrous purple making for a very striking machine. The interior is a full-on brocade affair with bedford cord & is in fine order. Black leather is installed up front to the drivers seats. Having been used in Germany the car is fitted with discreet flashers & indicators to satisfy the German MOT equivalent, the Tuff test. Under the bonnet the car is beautifully detailed with all the brass & copper polished to a high shine, The engine has covered few miles since the rebuild so has superb compression & runs strongly & silently as one might expect. It is ready for immediate use & is a large tall imposing car that always draws attention to itself. 1960 Rolls Royce Phantom V Park Ward Limousine. Chassis number: 5AS69 Registration number: TBA Arriving soon in January. Originally commissioned for the London High Commissioner for Nigeria. This phantom is in supeb condition having been the recipient of massive expenditure to put in in the condition we find it today. The classic Masons Black paintwork is laid down over straight alloy panels with excellent alignment and fit. Getting such a large car to appear so straight in a single-tone black paint scheme is no easy task and is a testament to the quality and care given to the restoration. A single coach line in gold accents the paintwork, which is repeated on the wheel covers as per original. Chrome adornment is limited to bumpers, light trims, a subtle waist strip and of course, the prominent Rolls Royce radiator shell. A radiator-mounted flag holder hints at this cars period diplomatic duties. All of the brightwork is presented in very good order, with deep, clear reflections and no corrosion. The interior is wonderfully presented, with a black drivers compartment contrasting a cream beige passenger compartment, separated by a power divider that glides up & down at the touch of a button. The chauffeurs compartment is beautifully trimmed, in black leather. The Black Wilton carpets are in excellent order and the gorgeous woodwork provides a visual lift to the businesslike drivers office. An under-dash A/C unit keeps the driver and front passenger comfortable, while all original instruments and switchgear present in excellent order. The rear compartment is a drastic contrast to the front, with a light and airy feeling courtesy of the cream beige Connolly hides, light Wilton rugs, and plenty of glass. Integrated into the divider is a beautifully finished wood bar, an originally-fitted option which includes a pair of crystal decanters. Flanking the bar is a pair of jump seats trimmed in leather and vents for the rear-mounted air conditioning system. Door cards are in excellent order, with beautiful banded-wood caps surrounding the cabin. Rear passengers are whisked along in opulence, with gorgeous tan leather chairs, individual cigarette lighters, carpeted foot rests and a separate set of controls for the rear air conditioning system. The engine bay presents beautifully with a few modern upgrades for the sake of reliable operation. Correct finishes adorn the rocker covers, ancillaries and firewall. The car is an outstanding driver, with its previous owner using the car sparingly for shows and events. It rides on a set of Michelin X radial tires, a widely accepted modern alternative to the original crossply tires, well suited to the performance characteristics of this large limousine. The car will arrive with us in January at which time we will perform a full service upon it & rephotograph it to our ususal standards. We will also be UK registering the car. To sum up this is a car in impeccable order with the benefit of an aftermarket air-conditioning system to keep the occupants cool. It exudes gravitas in large measures & makes a real statement upon its imperious arrival. Being a 7 seat vehicle it lends itself well to events such as Henly & Ascot but is equally at home as a London limousine similar to the last one we sold. Vintage and Prestige are proud to offer this 1936 Rolls Royce 35-30 Sedanca De Ville by Gurney Nutting For Sale. Registration no: DLH 892 Chassis no: GXM25 The Rolls-Royce 25/30, built between 1936 and 1938, is an updated version of the 20/25 featuring a larger engine than had been fitted to the earlier model which provided more power to compensate for the over-size bodies being built. The in-line six cylinder, overhead valve, engine was similar to that used in the 20/25 but increased in capacity to 4,257cc. A single proprietary Stromberg downdraught carburettor replaced the Rolls-Royce one and magneto ignition was no longer fitted but a spare ignition coil was provided. The riveted chassis had rigid front and rear axles suspended by half elliptic springs with hydraulic dampers. Braking was on all four wheels assisted by a mechanical servo with separate rear brakes fitted for the handbrake. Also fitted was the traditional Rolls-Royce radiator with vertical louvres, the angle of which was controlled thermostatically to control engine cooling. Only the chassis and mechanical parts were made by Rolls-Royce. The body was then made and fitted by a coachbuilder selected by the owner. In the early 1930s, all luxury marques were delivered as rolling chassis to one of many marque-approved coachbuilders for completion. This example, chassis GXM25, was bodied by Gurney Nutting in the Sedance De Ville design. The rolling chassis GXM25 and the 4250cc engine were driven out of the Rolls-Royce factory on July 4th, 1936 and handed to famed coachbuilder Gurney Nutting to be delivered on 5-9-1937. The Rolls-Royce is believed to have only three previous custodians, one of which owned the car as part of a Rolls-Royce collection in Kent, which twenty or so other examples from the marque. Finished in deep blue over black, with grey leather interior piped in blue, this example has the wonderful Sedanca canvas top, unfurling from the hidden compartment in the front of the roof. The rear compartment has one occasional seat folding from the bulkhead, on the opposite side is a fold out footrest. Between the two is a small cocktail cabinet with twin glasses and a decanter. Twin vanity alcoves are mounted with recessed mirrors reading lights. All interior woodwork is in fine order. Acceleration is responsive, with the car feeling light and extremely manoeuvrable with firm but supple suspension. The car starts instantly and runs silently, with the radiator shutters operating perfectly via the thermostat. The owner has covered many miles in the car without any problems, and with a new overdrive, allowing the car to cruise at 65 to 75mph. All tools are in their appointed place and the original Bakelite coil covers are also correctly mounted. The car comes to us with a large history file, tools and original handbook. 1921 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost Pickwick Limousine RHD Registration No: DS7421 Mileometer: 25696 Chassis No: 95BG (Springfield). This 1921 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost is a very early Springfield built, Willoughby Bodied Pickwick Town car. The chassis number is 95BG and the car shows 25,700 miles on the clock which is believed to be Genuine having spent over 45 years in a museum in the USA and then being used very sparingly once in the UK. The oldest UK MOT shows 20,000 miles in 1989 and the car has only covered about 5,000 miles since then. The car is very very original and runs and drives very well with a tight taut feel to the ride & controls.. This is a rare early Springfield example with original artillery wooden wheels (one of only two) as ordered by the first owner, a Mr Tom Batchelor of Reno Nevada. The car was purchased after 45 years museum storage by the late Terry Cohn formerly of Churt. He sent the car upon arrival for a thorough recommissioning performed by Coldwell Engineering. The list of things done extends to 10 pages & clearly was a fastidious job leaving no stone unturned. In 1991 £13,000 was spent at Coldwell at a time when the labor rate was £12.00 per hour. The Artillery Wheels are in excellent order with tight spokes & are rattle free. We have treated the wheels with linseed oil to protect them & allow them to take up the moisture & prevent shrinkage. The wheels are fitted with detatchable rims with a pair of spares mounted to the running boards. The interior upholstery is all original wool cloth & is in good order given the cars age of almost 100 years. Aside from one or two bare spots on the carpets it presents very very well. A useful cocktail cabinet is fitted to the Bulkhead as is a wind up division. The dash board contains the full quotient of period instrumentation as supplied when new. Looking at the complete absence of wear on the throttle pedal & taking into account the tight feel of the chassis & long lay up period, I have no doubt that the 25k recorded miles are correct. The car really is a time warp & to drive it is to give one an idea of how these cars were when new. Oil pressure is constant at 20 psi & the car runs cool consistantly at 150degrees farenheight when at cruising speeds upon the motorway. It runs comfortably at 50MPH. We did push it for a brief moment to 65 which is credit indeed given such upright formal coachwork. The car is being supplied freshly serviced & ready for immediate extended use.
