![CDATA[The notion that the Mini might have a future as anything other than basic transport was an anathema, the idea of a high-performance version was laughable. One man though, saw it quite differently. Racing car manufacturer John Cooper already knew quite a bit about tuning BMC's A-Series engine, he was running the company's Formula Junior effort at the time and a test drive in a prototype Mini convinced him of the car's competition potential. The Mini Cooper soon established its credentials as a rally and race winner and the stage was set for even faster versions. The first of these, the 1071cc Mini Cooper 'S' of 1963, took engine development a stage further and provided the basis for the 971 'S' and 1275 'S' of 1964. This righthand drive Morris Mini Cooper 1275 S benefits from a ground-up restoration, in 2016, to near concours quality in the correct early type, (lighter shade RD9), tartan red with black roof. The car was exported on 3rd July 1965 to Portugal. It was registered to its firstowner on 10th November 1965 and remained in Portugal until 2016. Discovered as an abandoned project, the previous owner started a restoration in spring 2013 with every component being refurbished, renewed or replaced. All the bodyshell details were revised and rectified, using new panels where required. The engine was completely dismantled, inspected and rebuilt using new parts only when the originals were not suitable to reuse. The first step was to make the revision of the AEG312 'S' short block. Therefore, after verifying the good status of the crankshaft, pistons and con rods, it was fitted with new parts such as pistons rings, bearings, seals, oil and water pumps. A duplex vernier timing gear and chain set was fitted along with a new camshaft kit. The original AEG163 head was beyond repair so a replacement Stage 3 head was sourced from Minisport. The gearbox received the same attention as the engine benefitting from a total strip and inspection before rebuild using new baulk rings. A completeand new wiring loom was installed along with all new electronic components throughout the car for safety and reliability. The entire interior was retrimmed in the correct Newton Commercial, (UK), red and gold brocade with new seat covers, door cards, carpet, headlining and boot board. The car is fitted with very rare original 3.5 Cooper S wheels, (including spare), all running on Dunlop tyres. The car was then converted back to righthand drive for the UK roads something that naturally is very simple to do especially as the initial Alec Issigonis design was conceived to suit all markets. The accompanying history file contains a UK V5 registration document and a Heritage Dating Certificate. Very difficult to fault, this is a unique opportunity to purchase an outstanding motorcar that, for most, would simply be impossible to achieve, this car is a collector quality example. This vehicle has recently been recommissioned after being stored and not driven in over two years, this included new spark plugsand fuel filter. With examples in this condition commanding well over £50,000, frankly, this looks like incredible value especially given the rarity and 'wow' factor.]]

We are delighted to offer this superb driving, very well-presented Morris Oxford onto the market. We have previously sold the Morris one two occasions, most recently in 2018 to a local long-term customer and back in 2015 to an enthusiast up in the Lake District. Prior to 2015 the Morris had spent some time in the Beamish Collection and is one of very few Oxford Doctors Coupe seen on the road today. This being the more powerful Oxford, is incredibly desirable and is a real collector's piece. More recently the Morris has been subject of a major mechanical overhaul and comes back to us in exceptional mechanical condition. The Morris comes with a comprehensive history file that includes previous owner correspondence detailing that the Morris was discovered in an old barn in Bovingdon Green near Chesham in Buckinghamshire back in the 1960's. The Oxford needed major restoration and it was soon purchased by an engineer and taken to his engineering business in Marlow. Some work was carried out by theowner, but his growing business meant he did not get chance to finish the Oxford so some years later he sold the car and eventually, by the early 1980's the Morris was fully rebuilt and put into lovely condition throughout. We have photographs of the car in various stages including several images of the rolling chassis with the body removed. Mechanicals were fully rebuilt, the body rebuilt and the upholstery re-trimmed and restored as necessary. We have MOT certificates dating back to the mid 1990's and the vehicle now records around 11000 miles. In 1995 the mileage was 6500 so we know the Morris has had very low use in the recent years. The Morris spent three years in the Lakes and had proven totally reliable and very easy to own. Prior to this, the Morris had successfully completed the Beamish run in the North East and had various work carried out by MacDonald Racing in County Durham. This work includes stripping the diff and replacing the crown wheel and pinion. Having covered very littlemileage in the year or so before coming back to us, a program of mechanical work was undertaken in 2018 costing over 12,000. The Morris was treated to a new clutch plate, bearing, pressure plate, clutch separator springs and pins, new spigot bearing, new exhaust manifold gasket set, new crank shaft gears, front cam upper gears, new leaf spring shackles and washers, re-lined front brakes, new front king pins, rebuilt radiator and new dyno start drive chain. Cosmetic work included a brand new wool headlining. The Morris has come back to us in exceptional mechanical condition having had an engine strip down and major work carried out in 2018. We can report the car has a lovely, strong engine and sound gearbox and ML 9361 starts well, drives incredibly well and is a fabulous fun on the road. The Oxford presents very well and has nicely aged since restoration. The car was clearly rebuilt to a very high standard and we can see that from checking the vehicle over and seeing the level of detail and workcarried out when it was restored. The paint work has a lovely aged look with nice older deep paint and the body is straight with excellent panels. The upholstery was re-trimmed many years ago now but retains a lovely patina and the new wool headlining looks beautiful. ML 9361 is a very honest, rare and collectable Oxford that can be driven with confidence. Price: 18,995
