The Mercedes-Benz W113 SL was launched at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show as the replacement for the popular W121 SL 190. Penned by Mercedes' lead designer Paul Bracq as principally a two-seater luxury sports touring convertible with a slightly concave hardtop, which inspired the Pagoda nickname. All models were equipped with six-cylinder engines with multipoint fuel injection. The bonnet, boot lid, door skins and tonneau cover were made of aluminium to reduce weight, this combined with excellent suspension, powerful brakes made for superb handling. Mercedes launched the 250 SL in December 1966 with production ending in January 1968 making 250 the rarest of all the Pagoda models with only 5,196 built. Boasting 150bhp with the option of either an automatic or manual transmission the 250 SL was capable of speeds in excess of 120 mph making for effortless European touring. The Mercedes-Benz 250 SL Pagoda offered here at Autostorico was first registered in Italy in 1967 and is finished in its original Blue with Black MBTex interior and navy-blue soft top. This stunning example boasts the highly desirable, factory fit, five speed manual ZF gearbox of which only around 100 were fitted to the 250-model making it one of the rarest and most desirable Pagoda derivatives on the market. Other notable features include: third seat option, factory hardtop and original Becker Europa radio. Having spent a large part of its life in California the car returned to Europe and was enjoyed by its current owner, who has continued to maintain the car to an exceptionally high standard. Work was entrusted to Pagoda marque specialist Roger Edwards, with recent invoices totalling close to £40,000. Offered for sale with a current V5 registration document, MOT certificate valid until August 2019 and a comprehensive history file containing numerous invoices. Viewing strictly by appointment only.

Daimler-Benz decided, in the post war era, to re-enter the single passenger car market with the absolutely stunning 300. A car based on the hugely popular pre-war 170V that it had offered until 1951, the 300 used a 2996 cc overhead cam 6-cylinder engine, mounted to a 120' wheelbase and was available in a sedan or four-door variant. This car paved the way to the timeless 300 SL, the classic competition car which drew heavily from the 300. The Mercedes line lacked a moderately priced sports car and filled the gap with the absolutely incredible 190 SL, which in essence served as a junior 300 SL. The platform utilised a shortened W121 monocoque which was strengthened to accommodate the lack of a roof. The engine was a 1897 cc SOHC unit that was created by taking the 300 SL engine, removing two cylinders and shortening the stroke. The engine used dual downdraft solex carbs, developed 120 bhp and was attached to a four-speed manual transmission with a floor mounted shift lever. The suspension comprisedof four wheel independent coil-spring double wishbones in front and swing axles in the rear. The windows were manual roll-up windows, the roof was a folding soft top and cockpit heating came as standard on the car. The car was relatively expensive for its day, but it was somewhat in a class of its own as a true Grand Tourer, it's only real competitor was the Alfa Romeo Guilietta Spider. The Mercedes-Benz 190 SL was first displayed at the New York motor show in 1954 and can be largely credited to Max Hoffman who foresaw that the competition success of the 300 SL Gullwing could translate into a popular vehicle for the USA market. The 190 sat at half the price of its bigger 6-cylinder brother in the 300SL and subsequently outsold the more expensive model eight-fold. 190 SLs were produced between 1955-1963, with around 70% of these being delivered to the USA. It was the stunning design and complete usability of the car that suited the US market so well, especially in states such as California. Theexample we are delighted to offer is a 1959 RHD example that underwent a full nut and bolt restoration with renowned Mercedes' experts SL Classics in 2018. The car sits today in impeccable condition, finished in Metallic Light Blue over Tan leather and showing just 29 miles since its restoration. This car is probably the finest RHD 190SL available on the market and would make the perfect addition to any classic car collection!

1971 Mercedes 280SE 3.5 Cabriolet (LHD) - For sale in London Mercedes-Benz flagship model and their last hand built automobile Beautiful colour combination of Ice Blue Metallic over Deep Blue hide Highly equipped example with all the desirable options Air Conditioned Floor Change Automatic Electric Windows Original Becker radio Burr Walnut woodwork If you feel obligated to ask about the price you not only will never understand the car, you have branded yourself incapable of ever appreciating its virtues even if someone gave you one. Car & Driver on the Mercedes-Benz 280SE 3.5. Introduced in late 1969 as a prestige model to supplant the somewhat underpowered six-cylinder 280SE, the V8-powered, W111-Series 280SE 3.5 in both coupe and convertible form was of immediate appeal to wealthy customers who were accustomed to having the best quality and workmanship available in an automobile, but didnt need or desire the next step up, the over-the-top 600. The hand-built body of the new model wasslightlyrestyled, with a cleaner and flatter nose and radiator shell, but was still quite conservative. Beneath the wide hood there now rested a Bosch fuel-injected, 200bhp overhead-cam 3.5 Litre V8 with 211 foot-pounds of torque designed to deliver excellent performance. One reviewer referred to it as having a hot-rod- like persona with a lovely exhaust snarl while meeting ever-more strict emissions laws in the US, the companys most vital market. Fitted with a compact but sturdy V8 that was capable of moving this big 4/5-seater to 100 kilometres per hour in under 10 seconds, and offered a top speed in excess of 200km/h, a substantial improvement on the six-cylinder versions figures. Large vacuum-assisted disc brakes at each corner allowed the driver to slow with ease, and handling was described as very comfortable, thanks to its coil-sprung independent suspension. The craftsmen at Sindelfingen produced just 1,232 of these 3.5 V8 Cabriolets, making them extremely rare, even rarer than the famousGullwing! Both the open and closed versions of the 3.5 were offered with an option list just about every luxury amenity a buyer could ask for. Our car was specified with all the most desirable items. The few choices remaining pertained to paint and interior trim colours and which model of Becker stereo system was desired. It all added up to an impressively costly automobile. Significantly, the 280SE 3.5 was to be the final model to feature this long-established and much admired body style, and today these last-of-the-line classics are highly sought after by discerning Mercedes-Benz collectors worldwide. Our beautiful 280SE 3.5 Cabriolet is finished in the stunning combination of Ice Blue metallic with a deep Blue hide interior. Complementing Burr Walnut woodwork wraps around the front cabin giving an instant feeling of luxury and fine craftsmanship. A continuation of Blue leather around the rest of the cabin only amplifies the exquisite nature of this motorcar; the colour combination is one of thefinestweve seen. This Cabriolet was completed at the Stuttgart-based Mercedes-Benz factory in 1971 with numerous desirable options destined for the US market. Equipped with the floor change automatic gearbox, Behr air-conditioning, power windows and factory fog lights, it makes for a superb car both inside and out. The standard of the car continues to the exterior which is finished in a stunning combination of Ice Blue metallic with contrasting Blue convertible soft-top. Looking fabulous both up and down, the roof functions manually and correctly. There are no scuffs or rips in the material and there are no creases and cracks in the delicate rear window. Complete with the car is the hood-cover, which fits well and completes the open-top touring look. The chrome that surrounds the car is in fine condition and is a pinnacle element to this rare model of Mercedes. Driving this motorcar is at the top of enthusiasts and collectors bucket list, not just for its elegant styling, but also mainly because ofits3.5 V8 engine, a very sophisticated design and construction. As one knows from a Mercedes-Benz, the quality of the car is in another league, and this flagship model is known for its luxury, whilst maintaining very respectable performance figures. Driving our car is a pleasure, to engaging into drive is seamless using the floor shift control, and the car pulls away smoothly. Running through the gears beautifully, it again fits into that ultimate open-touring driving experience. Although not encouraged, a quick 9 seconds should take you to 60mph, sufficient for the Mercedes connoisseur. Complete with the original owners manual, service book and cloth tool roll our car really is the perfect example for any careful but enthusiastic driver/collector.
