We are delighted to offer this remarkably early 1949 alloy XK120 Roadster which has been meticulously restored to every periodically correct detail by CKL. The Cream paintwork is accompanied by a rather dashing Biscuit and Red interior trim and features a perfectly fitting black trimmed hood. The car features some subtle differences from the later production road-going XK120, from the original starting handle, chrome hood frame, door knobs at the front of the doors instead of the back and early non-adjustable hood clamps. To the trained eye, these features are particularly interesting since these designs were part of the prototype stage for very early XK120s. Originally distributed by Hornburg, Los Angeles in August 1949, the car would have likely been ordered by a high calibre individual or perhaps a celebrity. Importantly, being such an impeccably early car, the fact that such valuable materials and resources used to build the car only 4 years after the war should be noted. Some 15 years ago, upon its return to the UK, restoration began. CKL would recently complete the restoration, featuring a full retrim by none other than Mick Turley to the highest possible quality. Maintaining the high standard of restoration work, the XK120 would see around £200,000s worth of time and parts thoughtfully implemented to preserve originality and present to concours standard. The very early studless engine of course incorporates a pair of rare stove-pipe SU carburettors which complete the period look. A particularly interesting detail is that the engine number is in fact stamped on the bell housing, again pointing to the early prototype stages of development. Accompanying the engine is an early type starting handle which is now stored smartly in the boot, along with the tool roll with period tools, spare wheel and jack. The brass clips to secure these items in the boot were measured and designed to be periodically correct for this XK120. Recently involved in a high-profile photo-shoot, showing the remarkable craftsmanship and attention to detail. What we are offering is an outstanding example of what can be achieved to bring a real piece of Jaguars history back to life. ![CDATA[Universally acclaimed as one of the most elegant motorcars, it seems extraordinary that the Jaguar XK120 was penned without the use of computer aided design. The flowing lines, one of the finest engines ever engineered and performance unequalled at the time all combined to create an experience that has enthralled collectors ever since. Few can deny the attraction the Malcolm Sayer designs had on film stars and the general public alike. The sensation caused when successive XKs were unveiled at motorshows around the world has not been rivalled since. Indeed, the success enjoyed by Jaguar was not confined to the public roads however and Jaguar racings cars are equally competitive today as indeed they were over 60 years ago. Indeed many specialists now exist catering to models preparing them to fast road and race specification. It is with a nod to its racing heritage that this example has been prepared for sale today. Converted from left to righthand drive by the vendor, the body was thenstripped to bare metal and, finding that it was in good order throughout, a meticulous two-pack painting process was then undertaken in classic Jaguar silver. At the same time, to aid comfort, both footwells have been extended and courtesy lights fitted to the underside of the doors. The standard bench seats were exchanged for more sporting bucket seats and finished in red leather (original bench items available by separate negotiation). During the re-build, all joints have been polybushed and all nuts, bolts, washers, radiator and bonnet stays are now made of marine-grade stainless steel with Dax adjustable shock-absorbers at each corner. The engine has been stripped down and rebuilt by the best in the business, Guy Broad, complete with new conrods, shells and pistons, breathing is through 2 S.U. (autochoke) carburettors with power delivery through a five speed gearbox (original four-speed unit available by separate negotiation). A single Le Mans-style fuel filler cap has be added to the reardeck and, hinting at a previous life on the grid, this model comes with actual factory bonnet louvres. This is confirmed by the fact that the front pair are facing forward to aid cooling. Additionally, like the world-famous NUB 120 car driven by Jaguar founder, Sir William Lyons daughter, Pat Appleyard, twin spotlights can be found at the front. An extremely well-built and well-considered fast road example of Jaguars classic XK120.]]

![CDATA[The Jaguar XK120 was manufactured between 1948 and 1954 and was their first sports car since the SS100 which ceased production in 1940. It was launched in roadster form at the 1948 London Motor Show as a show car for the new Jaguar XK engine. It caused a sensation thus persuading Jaguar founder and design boss William Lyons to put the car into production. The 120 in its name referred to its top speed which made the XK120 the world's fastest standard production car at the time of its launch. It was available in two open versions; first as the roadster, then also as a drophead coupé from 1953 and also as a closed, or fixedhead coupé from 1951. With alloy cylinder head and twin side-draft SU carburettors, the double overhead-cam 3.4 litre straight six XK engine was comparatively advanced for a mass produced unit of the time. With a standard compression ratio of 8:1 it developed 160bhp. This same basic design of the XK engine, later modified into 3.8 litre and 4.2 litre versions, survived intothe late 1980s. This Jaguar was red with a tan leather interior when she was originally exported to the United States for the dealership Hornburg, USA. At some point while the car was stateside it was changed to the current colour of white. The present owner purchased this elegant Jaguar from Kansas City and in 1989 brought her home. Throughout his tenure the vendor has regularly used this car in touring rallies and sporting events while always maintaining and upgrading the car. During the period of 1998 to 2015 this Jaguar roadster benefitted from uprated rear springs, front and rear Koni suspension upgrades, an alloy fuel tank and radiator, Blockley tyres and a stainless steel exhaust. The principal repairs during this period were replacement sills, a complete engine rebuild including a period block replacement and a Moss gearbox rebuild. The documented costs for these works were £26,000. Following a carburettor fire in 2015 a comprehensive restoration project was undertaken. The remit was tomaintain as much as possible of the character of the car. We are informed £44,500 was spent on body restoration, engine and carburettor rebuild, electrics and suspension. Unfortunately the original tan leather interior was beyond repair so a complete retrim was undertaken by Mike Thomas trimming of Petersfield at a cost of £8,500. The result of this work is one of the most fabulous examples of an XK120 Roadster we have seen. Ready to be enjoyed immediately BSK 644 would make an excellent addition to any enthusiasts collection.]]
