The best 390 GT we have ever seenBig block, big carburettor S code 390ci engine with four-speed manual transmissionSubject to an extensive restoration and repaintFurther info:If you are a fan of the model of Mustang immortalised by Steve McQueen's Lieutenant Frank Bullitt and one of the most memorable car chases in cinematic history, then you'll probably be blown away by 'YTA 488E', which is without question the best 390 GT we have ever seen. We understand the nut and bolt restoration it has been treated to accounted for some 3,800 man hours, and we can well believe it apparently 25,000 was invested in the paint alone. According to the accompanying Marti report, this matching numbers fast Ford was built at the company's Metuchen plant on July 13, 1967 where it was sprayed in Burnt Amber and equipped with the standard Black bucket seats. Its big block, big carburettor S code 390ci engine was linked to a four-speed manual transmission driving through a 3.25:1 limited slip differential, and thespecification additionally included: the desirable GT Equipment Group performance package; F70-14 wide oval tyres with White sidewalls; Am radio; and the exterior Dcor Group option. The original supplying dealer was Berry Motors Inc. of Paramus, New Jersey and the car remained in the US until being imported to the UK in 2014. It is now being made available, complete with the aforementioned Marti report plus a large collection of invoices, and is not surprisingly currently considered by the vendor to possess 'excellent', bodywork, paintwork, interior trim, V8 engine and transmission. Without doubt, 'YTA 488E' represents a very exciting and rare opportunity for Mustang aficionados everywhere.Launched in 1964, the Mustang was originally offered in Notchback Coupe or Convertible guise only, based on the underpinnings of the Falcon and powered by a range of sixand eight-cylinder engines of up to 289ci (4.7-litre) capacity. The ultimately more famous Fastback option appeared a year later, with the model'sfirst significant facelift occurring during 1967.

An original A-frame car built in May 1965. Its first owner was Mr Joe N Dyer of Los Altos, CaliforniaHe appears to have kept the car until 1981/82, then registered to John Lynch of Millbrae CaliforniaCommenced an 8-stage refurbishment in 2013 by VDM Restorations Rangiora, South Island, New ZealandThis process was documented and invoiced ($11,000NZ) with the focus on retaining originalityVery encouraging recent inspection by marque specialist Andy Middlehurst with a 'glowing' reportThis is a rare Dagenham-built, pre-airflow car that has remained substantially originalPrior to the sale, will have an oil/ filter service with fresh fluids and be MOT'd and road tested The Lotus Cortina came into being because of Ford's decision to step up their motorsport involvement in the early 1960s. Their Head of UK Public Relations, Walter Hayes, spoke to Colin Chapman, asking him to come up with a competitive saloon, using the Cortina as a base, that could be produced in sufficient numbers to satisfy themandatory'Group 2' homologation requirements, and with which the Blue Oval could beat all comers. The solution was to take Ford's bullet-proof 1500 Kent engine, fit it with a twin-cam cylinder head, pop it into a stiffened Cortina shell, sort out the suspension and brakes and paint a green stripe down the side. The cars would be built by Lotus at its plant in Cheshunt and marketed through their dealer network as the Ford Cortina Lotus. This early Lotus Cortina has recently (June 2019) been inspected by acknowledged marque specialist, Andy Middlehurst, and the full report will be supplied with the car. He confirms that this is a Dagenham built very early 'Airflow' car that has some of the features of the 'pre-airflow' cars. The report is very encouraging so it's probably better to list a few of the relevant points. The car is fitted with A-bracket rear suspension which is all original apart from the shocksNo anti-tramp brackets confirming it was an A-bracket carThe car has all steel panels. Theboot hump iscorrect and originalCorrect quarter bumpers and late rear bumper. Front wings plenished as per productionChassis plate and Lotus production plate are both originalFront seats, door trims, rear seat, steering wheel, instruments and gear knob all correct for 1965Correct early engine, original carbs, airbox and servoThe report lists one or two minor items that have been replaced over the years and mentions that the green stripe is not the right shade (should be Sherwood Green) but concludes 'Car drives well, could benefit from a tune but the gearbox, engine, brakes and steering are all in good condition.'#59206 is an original A-frame car built in May 1965 and delivered to its first owner Mr Joe N Dyer of Los Altos California by C J Motors the "Authorized English Ford Line Dealer" of Berkeley California. It's unusual to think of a Californian order a little, 4-cylinder, British sporting sedan but he was a bit of an enthusiast judging from the wonderful history file which contains many USregistrationcards, the original Dealers Service Policy, and written mileage and fuel logs during Mr Dyer's ownership. The Registration Cards would suggest that he kept the car until 1981/82 and then it was registered to John Lynch of Millbrae, California.Little more can be told from the history file from 1982 until the car 59206 appears in Rangiora, South Island, New Zealand in 2013. A company called VDM Restorations Ltd embarked on an eight-stage sympathetic refurbishment as detailed by the invoices in the file totalling nearly NZ$11,000 and, judging by Andy Middlehurst's report, carried out an excellent restoration whilst successfully maintaining most of the car's originality. This is a well-travelled car with a fascinating history and a recent detailed inspection showing that it is substantially original and in remarkably good order. Prior to the sale, the car will have an oil and filter service with fresh fluids and be MOT'd, road tested and inspected.

The first generation of Mustang was launched to the public at the New York World Fair in April 1964 and went on to be one of Fords most successful cars. The most sought after of the Mustang line up was the Fastback derivative. During 1965, Carroll Shelby agreed a deal with the Hertz Corporation to setup a rental program for the Mustang GT350. Hertz ordered 999 cars which were primarily finished in the now famous livery of Black with Gold racing stripes. With blistering performance, the GT350H quickly became known as the Rent-A-Racer with anyone over the age of 25 being able to hire one. As you might imagine, this venture was popular among the racing enthusiast crowd. In fact, its been reported that some renters actually took their rental cars to the track where they would remove the engine and put it in their personal race car. At the end of the race, theyd drop the Cobra engine back into the rental car and return it to Hertz. The idea was to avoid damaging the rental car while boosting the performance of their personal ride. The Mustang GT350 held the production B championship for 3 years in a row in period, and are still very competitive today. The Ford Mustang GT350H Hertz Fastback Evocation offered here at Autostorico is a highly desirable manual example finished in Black with Gold stripes and a Black leather interior to Hertz specification. Registered in 1966 this stunning example has undergone a complete, no expense sparred, restoration. Notable works have included; A complete respray including taking the engine out and detailing the engine bay, a full mechanical overhaul was undertaken with engine, gearbox, axle, suspension and braking system being refurbished. To finish this accurate recreation the interior has been re-trimmed and new carpets fitted along with period stickers, decals and fittings. This striking GT350H recreation is offered with a current V5 registration document and will have a fresh MOT prior to collection. This car represents a unique opportunity to own a very accurate recreation of a GT350H at a fraction of the cost of an original car. Viewing strictly by appointment only.
