Vintage and Prestige are proud to offer this 1972 Ferrari Dino GT RHD For Sale. Only 498 right-hand drive (RHD) Dino GTs were sold in the UK and this matching numbers example really is one of the finest available. Recently having benefitted from a superb restoration by Ferrari specialists Kent High Performance in 2014 the body-work is in beautiful concours condition with the iconic curves and shapes gleaming with the beautiful paint finish. The interior was re-trimmed at the time of the restoration and the quality matches that of the exterior by being completed to the highest of standards. The engine have just covered a mere 36,000 miles at the point of restoration was not in need of a full rebuild, but has been well maintained throughout which is shown in the history folder. The Dino, named in honour of Enzo Ferrari's son, was a brand for V6 engined Ferrari's and the project that Alfredo 'Dino' Ferrari worked on before he died tragically of muscular dystrophy at just 24 years old. In order to homologate Ferrari's Formula Two entry in 1966, the FIA requested that 500 production cars were produced using the same V6 unit as the race car. The Dino was born using the two-litre V6 Ferrari unit which was later used in the early 206GT versions of the Dino. Ferrari used the mid-engined configuration that was working well for them in sports car racing for the new Dino and the prototype 206S was shown at the 1966 Turin show. The car drew a positive response and Ferrari put the car into production, making it the first mid-engined production Ferrari. A 2.4-litre version on a longer wheelbase, the 246GT, replaced the Dino 206 in late 1969. The beauty of a mid-engined sports car is the handling, an improved centre of gravity lends itself to better road holding, a Ferrari Dino has great cornering ability and is an enormously fun car to drive. .. 1972 Ferrari Dino 246 GT. This highly original LHD 246 GT was constructed in January 1972, finished in Rosso Chiaro with Nero, and delivered new to Canada. By 1981 it had moved to West Virginia in the United States where it remained for many years but saw little use, a pattern that continued through to the present day, which is confirmed by the low mileage (15,260) and the car's few owners. Consequently this unrestored example remains wonderfully preserved, retaining its factory original paint and interior. Mechanically it has just benefitted from a full JD Classics recommissioning and all numbers match the factory build records. Road registered for the UK it provides an incredibly rare opportunity to acquire a true time warp example of the legendary Ferrari Dino that is ready to enjoy. Please contact us for further details.

  • Auction: 5th Sep 2018 - RM Sotheby's - London Auction

To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION at RM Sothebys' London event, 5 September 2018. The third RHD Dino 246 GT built and second car delivered to the UKShown at the 1970 Earls Court Motor ShowSingle ownership for over two decades The Dino 206 GT was intended as the debut model of a junior Ferrari range upon its unveiling at the 1967 Turin Motor Show. Boasting a lightweight, mid-engined chassis with a transversely mounted 2.0-litre, all-alloy four-cam V-6 engine, it was capable of 160 bhp and a top speed of 146 mph. Aerodynamic aluminium coachwork by Pininfarina and a name honouring Enzo Ferraris late son, Alfredino, completed the package. Despite being lauded for its handling abilities, just 152 examples were built, all in LHD. Ferrari sensed that the reason for poor sales was the high asking price, necessitated due to the use of expensive lightweight materials, and so in late 1969, the Dino 246 GT was introduced. The new Dino was built on a slightly longer wheelbase, employing steel for the bodyshell and castiron for the engine block. Superficially, this may have appeared as a step backwards, however, the new 2.4-litre V-6 more than made up for the negligible extra weight the car now carried: 195 bhp at 7,600 rpm propelled the 246 GT to a whisker under 150 mph. Coupled to its ability to outperform even Ferraris twelve-cylinder supercars on twisty roads, made it the benchmark sportscar of its time. Hoping for a more substantial production run, it was only natural that this new Dino would be prepared for the RHD market as well. Completed at the factory in September of 1970 and tastefully specified in Rosso Chiaro with black leather and grey carpets, chassis no. 01136 was just the third 246 GT Dino built in RHD and the second delivered to the UK. It is notable as it was displayed at the 1970 Earls Court Motor Show, making it one of the first 246 GT Dinos seen by enthusiasts in the UK. Shortly thereafter, it was delivered to its first owner, H.A. Gover of South Bennfleet, Essex. By 1978, it was with B.E.Hallyday in Hatton Park, Warwickshire, until 1980. Believed to have covered just 46,789 miles from new, chassis no. 01136 was purchased by the consignor in the early 1990s, at which point it was taken off the road and has not been used since. It presents as a highly original car, a wonderful basis for a restoration. This Dino is accompanied by its original tool kit and leather documents wallet, along with substantial documentation, including historical MOT certificates and service invoices. This represents a wonderful opportunity for the discerning collector to acquire a significant Dino, one which has remained in the UK for its entire life.To view this car and others currently consigned to this auction, please visit the RM website at rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/LF18.
