With the introduction of the 550 Maranello in 1997, Ferrari returned to its custom of building front-engined V12 sports cars, reviving a style that had remained dormant since the demise of the 365GTB/4 'Daytona' in 1974. The 550 Maranello's 48-valve, 5.5-litre V12 developed 485bhp at 7,000rpm, some 100-or-so horsepower more than the Daytona's. Ferrari had discovered that providing optimum balance in a front-engined sports car necessitated the use of a rear transaxle, and the Maranello's came with six speeds. The power train was contained in a tubular steel chassis, to which was attached aluminium coachwork, while the all-independent suspension incorporated dual-mode (normal/sports) damping, switch-selectable by the driver, which was complemented by speed-sensitive power-assisted steering. Styled by Pininfarina like its illustrious 'Daytona' predecessor, the 550 Maranello adopted the traditional combination of long bonnet, small cabin and truncated tail. The body's aerodynamics were developed in thewind tunnel, where hours of testing guaranteed that the minimum of drag was combined with constant downforce regardless of set up, an important consideration in a 200mph road car. Styling details such as the bonnet air scoop and hot air outlets behind the front wheelarches recalled the great competizione Ferraris of the past, in particular the immortal 250GTO, while the tail incorporated Ferrari's characteristic twin circular lights. The 550 Barchetta was introduced at the Paris Motor Show in 2000. The car was a true roadster with no real convertible top provided, while a temporary roof was provided by the factory it was advised that the car was not to exceed 70mph. A total of 448 Barchettas were built, 4 more than originally planned to placate the superstitious Japanese market, along with a total of 12 prototypes that are indistinguishable from the final production version save for a plaque mounted in the car that reads from P01-P12. The car we are offering is one of the finest available globallyhaving covered only 870km from new. Delivered new to Italy finished in Grigio Alloy over Nero Interior, the car left the factory with 2 open face Ferrari helmets that are still in absolutely immaculate condition. Also accompanying the car are a set of spare keys, Classiche Certification, spare light bulbs, a complete book pack, tyre pump kit, tool kit, number plate brackets and a reflective roadside triangle. The vehicle's most recent service took place in August of this year and consisted of a cambelt change, amongst other items.

2001 Ferrari 550 Barchetta (RHD) for sale in London Only 13,800 miles from new 1 of just 42 RHD examples Comprehensive service history with 10 dealer stamps Coming from a famous British owners collection Limited edition example Ferraris 550 Maranello heralded a return to the companys roots in the grandest fashion. A two-seat, front-engined V-12 coup had been absent from the companys line-up since the 365 GTB/4 Daytona. The decision was made to revive the format as a replacement for Ferraris mid-engine, flat-12 models. The result was an improvement over the outgoing F512 M, as it boasted superior performance, a larger and more comfortable interior, and a boot that could easily hold enough luggage for a weeklong road trip for two. Like the Daytona, the 550 Maranellos success warranted the production of a limited-edition variant. It was decided that this car would be a homage to some of Ferraris earliest and most desirable cars. First displayed at the 2000 Paris Motor Show, the 550 Barchetta was abarchetta in the truest sense. With only a rudimentary soft top for emergency use when caught in the rain, it featured a shorter, more aggressively raked windshield, two-piece alloy wheels, an aluminium fuel-filler cap, and a restyled boot that was, surprisingly, larger than that of the coup. A total of 448 Barchettas were produced, four more than initially planned due to concerns of superstition in the Japanese market but only 42 examples were produced in right hand drive our car was the 6th to be manufactured. DD Classics is proud to offer this exclusive and rare RHD 550 Barchetta for sale, presented in a stunning colour combination of Blu Nartwith Tan hide and Bordeaux carpets. Our car is in superb condition throughout, the paintwork is exquisite, the bodywork is straight, the removable soft-top remains unmarked and is easy to erect. Inside, the 550 emanates exclusivity, its Tan hide seats are in wonderful order and with the carbon fibre racing seats this really feels like one special Ferrari. Our 550 Barchettahas travelled a mere 13,800 miles from new and comes complete with the original Ferrari bookpack and service book as well as a comprehensive file of paperwork. The service book shows the car was first owned by a famous British rockstar and contains a total number of 11 stamps from Ferrari dealers. Marking the rebirth of Ferraris drop-top, front-engine V-12, the 550 Barchetta is one of the most celebrated Ferraris of the earliest 21st century and a wonderful driving automobile in every right. For many enthusiasts, there is nothing better than the thrill of driving a V-12 mated to a six-speed manual transmission and combined with the experience of open-air motoring. The 550 Barchetta has quickly proven to be a true modern-day collectible, as it combines modern speed and performance with the feel and charisma of a vintage Ferrari. Considering its low mileage and beautiful colour combination, this would make a thrilling and unique addition to any significant collection. Wonderfullyusable yet unique enough to still provide a sense of occasion every time one slides into the drivers seat, the 550 Barchetta is truly an incredible car to own and behold, and one that never tires of providing top-down fun in the sun. • Auction: 5th Sep 2018 - RM Sotheby's - London Auction

To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION at RM Sothebys' London event, 5 September 2018. One of just 48 right-hand drive examplesStriking Bianco Avus over Pelle Verde and Nero leatherFormerly owned by Chris EvansFerrari Classiche certified As the spiritual successor to the Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona, the 550 Maranello had big shoesor tyresto fill. More than two decades had passed since Ferrari replaced the Daytona with the mid-engined, flat-12 powered Berlinetta Boxer models, so the front-engined, V-12 in the 550 was a return to form. The 550 took its inspiration from the 456, but was a more performance-minded machine than a luxurious 2+2 grand-tourer. Accordingly, it was unveiled to the media at Germanys Nürburgring race circuit in 1996 to critical acclaim, both for its design and for its exceptional, supercar-grade handling. Four years later, the Ferrari helped Pininfarina celebrate its 70th anniversary at the Paris Motor Show with an open-top version, the 550 Barchetta. Its windshield was more deeply raked thanthat of the hardtop, and its decklid was stretched to accommodate the cars revised styling. The Barchetta was fitted with special 19-in. alloy wheels and was delivered with a cloth soft top that Ferrari admitted was not rated for highway use. Just 448 examples of the supercar roadster were made. About 10 percent of the 550 Barchettas made were right-hand-drive models, including the Bianco Avus white over dramatic Pelle Verde and Nero example offered here. This 2001 550 Barchetta was one of just a handful delivered new to Japan and was the 444th of just 448 built. Aside from a modern Sony radio, the 550 Barchetta is unmodified and retains several bespoke options such as a carbon fiber-rimmed steering wheel and dash trim and Alcantara covering its instrument binnacles. The 550 Barchetta left Japan in 2012 and arrived in the UK, where it was treated to a free-flow exhaust system, a new timing belt, a handful of interior cosmetic items and Pirelli P-Zero Rosso tires. Its ABS module was also replaced atthat time. In the UK, the 550 Barchetta was owned by noted collector and BBC presenter Chris Evans. Certified by Ferrari Classiche in April of 2017, confirming that it retains its original engine and gearbox, this is a 550 Barchetta not to be missed. To view this car and others currently consigned to this auction, please visit the RM website at rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/LF18.
