Listening to Chris Evans on Virgin Radio we heard that this little 2 CV was coming to market and so we just had to have a look! It did not disappoint - she (as the service record informs!) really is beautiful in every way and brings a smile to everyone that sees her - we had to have the little car! Fully restored at the Practical Classics Show in 2017, the car has seen little use since with just under 14,000 miles on the clock from new. Originally sold to Mr F McDonald in 1988 and then transferred to his wife in 1992, the car has only seen one owner since. Supplied with all original manuals/service books/maintenance manuals and a wonderful letter from the original owner which reads: Please see below a letter from the original owner of the 2CV Dear Jeremy, I am so happy to hear that you have restored the 2CV. Here is a little history of her time with us. In the late 80s, Norma saw an advert in a Sunday newspaper magazine showing a Citroen 2CV in the middle of a poppy or daisy field with a couplehaving a picnic and fell in love immediately with the car. I had a rugby friend who was a Citroen dealer in Yarm and so we went off to see him the following week. We were taken out for a test drive in the middle of which he went off the road and right across a field !! We were speechless but he explained that these models were designed for French farmers and needed to be tough. We ordered the car immediately and it came within two weeks. For years and years I had the original documents including the garage receipt but typically it has gone awol. From memory, I think we paid either 2700 or 3400 not exactly sure. The gear mechanism was unique and it took some practice before Norma was able to easily drive the car.S he loved the car from the moment she got it and spent many many happy years driving it with our two daughters in the back. Joanna and Danielle loved the summer days with the roof rolled down when they would stand on the back seat with hands in the air singing at the top of their voices. They christened it Dolly our Noddy car. The girls have many many wonderful memories of it and were sad to see it go even though they are now in their 30s. Norma drove all over in the car frequently over to Carlisle to sit on Social Security Support Appeal Tribunals and Magistrates Court too as well as Middlesbrough, Newcastle, Durham, Darlington, Berwick. Scarborough for holidays too where the car was always admired as quirky. Dolly never ever broke down and was always amazingly reliable.1 ''Dolly'' has been off the road in the past few years - always with a view to refurbishment eventually. Then you came along with your offer to buy and restore the car and so it was the end of our darling ''Dolly'' in the McDonald family. So we wish the new owners - whoever they may be - many many happy years with Dolly and if they have a quarter of the joy and happiness we had they will be very lucky people. We can confirm that the mileage at the time you bought it was a true and accurate record of our usage.Kind regards Frank and Norma McDonald

Almost certainly inspired by BMCs Mini Moke, the Citroën Méhari first appeared in prototype form in 1967 and like its British counterpart was based on a standard production car. In the Citroëns case it was the Dyane 6 version of the inimitable 2CV, so the Méhari featured the latters torsion-bar, suspension and air-cooled 602cc twin-cylinder engine driving the front wheels. The open body was made of ABS plastic and, like the Moke, a detachable soft-top and side screens served as weather protection. Taking its name from a type of camel known for its speed, the Méhari was launched at the Paris Auto Show in October 1968 and would remain in the range for the next 20 years, only disappearing when 2CV production ceased in France in 1988, by which time a total of 144,953 had been made. This wonderful and fun vehicle was originally built in France, it was then imported to the UK where it was converted to righthand drive and extensively restored and rebuilt. It has a galvanised chassis, new galvanisedspaceframe, new tyres, new hood, panels and frame. The ABS plastic body panels have been replaced and repainted in the striking orange you see today. The engine and gearbox have been recommissioned and there are too many other new and replacement parts to list. Contained within the history file there is a six page itemised invoice from a specialist vehicle restorer amounting to £9868 and a photographic record of the restoration. This fun, practical and economic little car comes with a V5C registration document and a dating certificate from the Citroën Car Club. The perfect way to enjoy the summer, which is only just around the corner! ]]
