1968 Citroen DS21 Safari ( RHD ) A tour de force in its aerodynamic design and innovative technology Orginal UK delivered RHD Factory fitted PAS Semi-AutomatiC Extremely rare Former long-termownership Superb, chic and stylish Restored Perfect for the Goodwood Revival After 18 years of secret development as the successor to the Traction Avant, the DS 19 was introduced on 5thOctober 1955 at the Paris Motor Show. In the first 15 minutes of the show, 743 orders were taken and orders for the first day totalled over 12,000. During the 10 days of the show, the DS took in 80,000 deposits; a record that stood for the next 60 years. In addition, the vehicle was offered with the option of power steering and a semi-automatic transmission (the transmission required no clutch pedal, but gears still had to be shifted by hand), though the shift lever controlled a powered hydraulic shift mechanism in place of a mechanical linkage, and a fibreglass roof which lowered the centre of gravity and so reducedweighttransfer. Inboard front brakes (as well as independent suspension) reduced unsprung weight. Different front and rear track widths and tyre sizes reduced the unequal tyre loading, which is well known to promote understeer, typical of front-engined and front-wheel drive cars. Finished in the period colour combination of Bleu Angora with Gris Palombe and BufflonGris vinyl. Extremelyrare factory original RHD car, this particularexample benefiting with just having only 4 owners over the 50 years which highlights the importance each of these lucky owners have placed on the Safari. Complete with tools and period fitted Supersonic radio still fitted this car will simply not disappointupon viewing. Perfect for the Goodwood Revival. Citroen DS21 Decapotable (LHD ) 1968 Later model but one of the last with the desirable 'Jaeger' dashboard Semi-Automatic Exclusively featured in a European film A tour de force in it's aerodynamic design and innovative technology Exquisitely presented throughout Just as it had done 21 years previously with the revolutionary 'Traction'. Citron stunned the world again in 1955 with the launch of the strikingly styled 'DS'. Beneath the shark-like newcomer's aerodynamically efficient, low-drag bodyshell there was all-independent, self-levelling, hydro-pneumatic suspension plus power-operated brakes, clutch, and steering. No European car would match the DS's ride quality for several years, the fundamental soundness of Citron's ahead-of-its-time hydro-pneumatic suspension being demonstrated by its survival in its present-day top-of-the-range models. The DS's original 1,911cc, overhead-valve, the long-stroke engine was replaced in 1966 by a short-stroke 1,985cc unit, also available in 2,175cc and2,347ccversions, while other DS developments included swiveling headlights, fuel injection and a five-speed gearbox. Other models offered alongside the original DS were the ID (a simplified, cheaper version), the cavernous Safari estate and the two-door Decapotable (convertible), the latter boasting coachwork by Henri Chapron. (Chapron's first convertibles had been produced independently of Citron, but the factory eventually gave the project it its a blessing). Citron's Dcapotables were built on the longer, stronger chassis of the ID Break (Estate). In total, 1,365 units (factory) convertibles were made with either the DS19 or DS21 engine between 1960 and 1971, while Chapron built a further 389 of his own, the last in 1973. Finishedin beautiful Royal Blue metallic coachwork with Fire hide, Charcoal carpets, Royal Blue mohair soft top and matching tonne finish off the iconic look of this incredible car. Painstakingly restored over a lengthy period leaving no small detail overlooked. Upon completion, thecar was exclusively featured in a European film to add to the importance of the car. Complete with complete tool roll and period Becker Europa radio to finish off the look, the car has just completed a 1000 mile drive across Europe without fault.
