To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION WITHOUT RESERVE at RM Sothebys' London event, 5 September 2018. Super cool 70s icon designed by Tom Karen of Ogle DesignRestored to better-than-new standardFormally part of a significant private collection The Bond Bug three-wheeler symbolised the youthful exuberance of the late sixties and early seventies. A cultural revolution was occurring, and following the purchase of Bond Cars Ltd, Reliant was focused on breaking into the youth market that was the driving force of the times. Having commissioned Tom Karen of Ogle Studios, he submitted a number of drawings of bold, futuristic designs for a fun car concept. The newly designed three-wheeler was a striking aerodynamic wedge shape, with an aircraft-style lifting canopy, sporting unconventional high-tech black graphics and aircraft-style instruction decals indicating tire pressure and other vital information. Only available in a bright tangerine orange, the Bond Bug turned heads wherever it went. Technically a motorcycle, itwas not allowed at the Motor Show, but Reliant scored a publicity coup by building a special body, joined back to back, and displaying it as a four-wheeler. The cars fame was helped by a distinctive Corgi Toys die-cast toy car. Although it had a short production run (19701974), it has a dedicated following today.Finished in its trademark bright Tangerine coachwork with all the correct decals, this 1972 Bond Bug is exquisitely presented throughout; a reflection of how highly treasured the Bug has been. Formally part of large private collections, this is a unique opportunity to acquire one of the very best of these ultra-cool iconic little cars.To view this car and others currently consigned to this auction, please visit the RM website at rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/LF18.
