Vintage and Prestige are proud to offer this 1963 Bentley S3 Standard Steel Saloon For Sale. This smart example of a Standard Steel is finished in the most desirable colours being Tudor over Shell Grey. The interior is one of the most comfortable places you could settle yourself, the graceful quality entombs you making it a struggle to step out of the car. Finished in a pale blue leather with matching pale blue carpets and a well finished, heavily burred vaneer running throughout. Originally supplied by Mann Egerton & Co to Mr A Williams of Cheltenham and recently having work carried out by the likes of Frank Dales and RR&B garages, recent works have include a complete gearbox and brake overhaul. In our showroom and ready for viewing. In 1962, Rolls-Royce's new V8 engine appeared in improved form in the Bentley S3 and Silver Cloud III, incorporating larger carburettors, a new distributor and raised compression ratio. Maximum power (traditionally undisclosed, as ever) went up by approximately 7%, which translated into a top speed of 115mph and a 0-60mph time a fraction under 11 seconds. There were many other changes made to the S3/Cloud III, the most obvious being the adoption of a four-headlamp lighting arrangement, the absence of sidelights from the wing tops, and a bonnet that sloped down to a slightly lower radiator shell. The result of these styling revisions was a car generally regarded as the most handsome of all the 'standard steel' types. Inside, the new models featured revised accommodation with separate front seats and increased room for rear passengers. The last mainstream Bentley to employ a separate chassis, the S3 remained in production until superseded by the unitary construction T-Series in late 1965. 1962 saw the introduction of the S3 variant of the factory bodied standard steel saloon and at first glance it would appear that the all new S3 was merely an S2 with different headlamps. The introduction of the twin headlamps was clearly the most obvious change, but the differences did not end there. Further changes included the introduction of smaller bumper over riders and the repositioning of the front indicators and side lamps into one single unit on the front wing, resulting in an arguably more attractive appearance. Mechanically speaking the S3 was issued with larger 9:1 compression ratio carburettors, improved power steering to aid smoother movement at parking speed and a Lucas vacuum-advance distributor to aid fuel consumption making it almost identical in mechanical specification to the S3 Continental that was being produced at the same time. This particular example, Chassis No B480CN, was completed in May of 1963, finished in masons black with a beige leather interior. It was ordered byMr J Brazil of Amersham in Buckinghamshire and supplied by Jack Barclay Ltd. It was ordered with electric windows and an auxiliary fuel tank for long distance journeys. Mr Brazil used the car extensively during his seven year ownership period, driving 70,000 miles. The car was then sold via Jack Barclay in 1970 to its second owner, Mr C Price of Ludlow in Shropshire. The car passed to his son in 1974 who owned it until 1987 at which point the mileage was 80,000 miles. The third owners were Mr and Mrs Cornish of Wanstead in London who set about some cosmetic improvements upon purchase, all listed in the cars history file. The car was owned by Mr St John Miller from 1998 to 2000 who sold it to Mr G Purdie. During Mr Purdies ownership, the car received substantial improvements, including a full coachwork restoration, mechanical works and new carpets to compliment the original leather interior which the car still retains today. To date, the car has travelled 97,000 miles from new. It is complete withan extensive history file, small and large tools and handbook. This fine example is serviced, prepared and ready for its fortunate next owner.

By late 1962 the success of the S Series Continental Bentleys entered its third and final chapter, with the introduction of the S3 Continental. The major cosmetic change was the introduction of the twin headlight system, providing Bentley drivers with more illumination. Mechanically speaking the S3 Continental was very similar to the S2 Continental, but benefited from having larger carburettors fitted and an upgraded power steering system. The success of the Vilhelm Koren designed Bentley S2 Continental had pleased the powers that be at Park Ward and his design was adapted for the S3 Continental chassis, with the introduction of twin headlights. The coachwork did not lend itself happily to horizontal headlights so they were instead positioned on a slight slant, a design that has commonly become known as the Chinese Eye. Chassis No BC100XE which we are currently offering for sale is one of fifty eight cars built in right hand drive to Design No 2006 by Mulliner/Park Ward on the S3 Continentalchassis. It was originally completed in December of 1965, finished in valentine brown with a black hood and a blue leather interior. It was supplied by Jack Barclay Ltd through their west London showroom to its first owner, Mr John Osborne of Chester Square in London. Being a late production example, it benefits from having the slightly lipped wheel arches and chrome strips on the coachwork, giving it arguably a more attractive appearance than the earlier cars. During the 1980s the car was exported to the United States and in around 2012 it was restored to its striking current configuration, in dark green with a tan hood and a fawn leather interior and matching hood cover. It was supplied in 2014 to its present owner and formed part of a small collection of high quality cars. It comes fully serviced, prepared and tested by Frank Dale & Stepsons and is complete with copy chassis cards and tools. This model continues to become more popular each year and we consider this fine example to not only be avery usable and beautiful classic Bentley, but also one that may benefit from future appreciation in value.

Chassis No BC4XD which we are currently offering for sale is one of just seventeen cars produced in right hand drive to Design No CV100 by James Young on the S3 Continental chassis. It was produced as direct competitor to the H.J.Mulliner styled Flying Spur and was a great success, with its flowing lines and stylish appearance. This particular car was completed in March 1965 to the order of Mr J Edwards of Farnham Common in Buckinghamshire, finished in James Young grey with a grey leather interior and supplied by Jack Barclay Ltd. It was also specified to be fitted with air conditioning and power windows. The car changed hands in June of 1966 when sold to Mr J Priestly of London and then again in February of 1968 when it was sold to Whipples Ltd in Lincolnshire. The car was then exported to the US but returned to the UK we believe in the 1980s, repatriated by A.B Price. It was sold in 1990 to Mr J Myers who instructed the restoration to the coachwork, woodwork and various mechanical aspects. Thecar was then supplied in April 1994 to Mr Haynes who owned it for twenty years from this point. During the early years of Mr Haynes ownership, the engine was overhauled and has covered approximately 16,000 miles since. For the ensuing time, Mr Haynes had the car serviced and reviewed on an annual basis, maintaining BC4XD on a no expense spared basis. The car is complete with extensive documentation from the cars inception and build at James Young and a great deal of paperwork from 1990 to present day showing the restoration works and servicing invoices from Bentley specialists. It retains its original leather interior and complete tools. Chassis No BC4XD is a fine example of this rare and stylish design by James Young which is ready for touring.
