1947 Bentley Mark VI Windovers DHC. Chassis Number: B-108-AK Registartion number: JFO394 Chassis number B108AK was completed in August of 1947 to the order of Sir Alexander Rogers KBE. The Bentley was bodied as a drophead coupe by the respected coachbuilding firm of Windovers. Founded in 1856 in Huntingdon but from 1924 based in North West London, Windovers diversified into the manufacture of motor bodies in the early 1900s, concentrating on quality marques chiefly Daimler and Rolls-Royce at first before adding the likes of Alvis, Armstrong-Siddeley, Lagonda, Lanchester, Mercedes-Benz, and Bentley to its portfolio in the 1930s. The coachwork is believed to be unique, with a disappearing hood design, concealed when lowered by a panel of folding coachwork, which is secured with a coach key. It is understood that this particular body - number '6645' to Design '101' - is one of the last, if not the very last, built by Windovers. B108AK changed hands in 1950 when purchased by Brook Tool Ltd of Birmingham, and then again in 1952 when purchased by R and W H Symington Ltd of Market Harborough. It was acquired in 1958 by Mr R V Fontes of Knutsford in Cheshire, and at some time in the mid/late 1980s was sold by David Baldock, as a restoration project, to Merrick Edwardes. B108AK had been in Canada for many years, was complete in every respect but needed a full restoration. Merrick Edwardes intended to restore the Bentley for his own use, but after a great deal of persuasion sold the car to Peter Channing and restored it for him during the early 1990s. The bills associated with the restoration are eye watering to say the least. This thorough restoration included a new ash frame, coachwork restoration, brightwork restoration and re-plating, a new hood and interior, and also extensive mechanical works. Mr Channing also wanted to upgrade the car with a 4½-litre Bentley R-Type engine and automatic transmission (the original engine had a cracked block and was unserviceable). A donor R-Type was purchased (chassis number 'B236WH') and the engine, gearbox, and steering column were removed, overhauled and fitted to 'B108AK' as per Mr Channing's instructions. At the same time the engine was modified for increased power and torque to this end Oselli Engineering gas flowed the cylinder head and an R-Type Continental exhaust was fitted. Following the completion of the works, the car was carefully maintained and serviced to a very high standard. Recently a new dark green Mohair hood was fitted & the spectacular burr walnut woodwork refurbished to show standard. The car was also mechanically reviewed and prepared by Marque spcialists Frank Dale & Stepsons of West London. It is in close to concours condition & will do well anywhere it is shown. The boot lid has had modern Gas Struts fitted to ease in opening & closing it. Presented in Brewster Green in show winning condition, this rare coachbuilt Bentley MkVI drophead comes with a complete selection of original small and large tools, and an extensive history file documenting the works carried out over the past 20 years. On the road it drives beautifully with notably more performance then a Standard Mark VI & a very long legged gait due to the 12.40 ratio rear axle. You really have to see & drive this car to appreciate how well it reflects the Monniker of "The Silent Sportscar." A gallery of large high-resolution pictures may be viewed on our website. Vintage and Prestige are proud to offer this 1951 Bentley MKVI Special Bodied Roadster For Sale. Registration: LVM 968 Chassis no: B180KM Engine no: B90K Coachwork: J C Pitney and Sons Mileage Since Complete rebuild: 1,200 Affectionately known as Annie this MKVI first started life as a standard steel bodied MKVI saloon. This is not your usual case of an un-loved MKVI chassis being built up into a special, LVM 968 had in fact been well maintained and was garaged in excellent condition. In 1994 was fire damaged in the owners garage and it was at this point the current owner purchased her with the vision to create a magnificent roadster. The chassis was lowered, various cosmetic adjustments made to the chassis irons, engine and gearbox which were moved back 260mm. Every mechanical and electrical component on the car was checked and overhauled by the renowned experts Sergeants of Goudhurst over a three year period. The body was designed by the owner, who tasked J C Pitney and Sons with creating his masterpiece. The long, sweeping boat tail design is striking from every angle, and has many Bugatti-esque features. The complete build amounted to 8 years and less than 1,300 miles have been covered since then. To drive she is well balanced and powerful, the engine is smooth and sweet, a true delight on the road. In our showroom and ready for viewing. 1951 Bentley MK VI H.J. Mulliner 'Lightweight' Saloon Chassis Number: B140MD Registration Number: 662 YUX Vintage & Prestige Fine Motors Cars are proud to present this 1951 Bentley MK VI H.J. Mulliner 'Lightweight' Saloon for sale. These very special all-aluminium 'Lightweight' Saloons were offered by H.J. Mulliner to those wanting something sleeker and more stylish than Bentley's Standard Steel Saloon. A significant premium reinforced the idea that these Lightweights were only reserved for Bentley's most discerning customers, with a price tag of £5105 versus the £3674 for the Standard Steel Saloon. Only 41 of these aluminium 'Lightweight' Saloons were produced by H.J. Mulliner between 1951 and 1953. What makes this particular car even more desirable is that it is powered by Bentley's Big Bore 4.5L straight-six engine, demonstrating a healthy power increase over the previous 4.25L, as well as being fitted with dual exhausts pipes. Presented here in Tudor Grey over Shell Grey, with a grey Vaumol leather interior and grey West of England cloth headlining, this Bentley MK VI H.J. Mulliner 'Lightweight' Saloon, B140MD, was exhibited at the 1951 Geneva Motor Show before being sold to its first owner, Monsieur Ervin Piquerez of Bassecourt, Switzerland. Mons. Piquerez was the founder and owner of Ervin Piquerez S.A., the company that invented the super-compressor, a dive-resistant watch case. The car remained in the Piquerez family until 2007, after which it was repatriated to the UK, where it underwent a massive 3-year restoration to return it to as-new condition. Highlights of this extensive body-off restoration include: - Fully overhauled chassis - Complete overhaul of the entire fuel system, including the tank, the pumps and the filters - Wiring loom completely rebuilt - Rear springs removed and overhauled - Shock absorbers removed and overhauled - Steering system completely rebuilt - All chrome removed and triple plated - Bare metal repaint - Any corroded aluminium cut out and replaced - Complete braking system overhaul - Complete interior strip-out and refurbishment - Complete interior electrics overhaul - Engine stripped and overhauled A full list of the work carried out, with invoices to match, accompanies the large history file. Further upgrades added to the car include electronic ignition, Flexolite full flow oil filtration with spin-off canister, and uprated front anti-roll bar links. As a result of its Swiss ownership, this right hand drive car is fitted with a speedometer in Km/h, and has only covered a mere 59,000Km from new. This is certainly a unique opportunity to purchase such a fantastically-restored Bentley MK VI in this ultra-rare all-aluminium 'Lightweight' body by H.J. Mulliner. The car is available for immediate viewing at our showroom. .. A large gallery of high-resolution pictures may be viewed on our website at http://www.vandp.net ... This beautifully presented Bentley MKVI Standard Saloon was supplied new on the 24th October 1949 by Jack Barclay Ltd, Hanover Square, London W1 to Eric Low Beer Esq of the Grade II Listed 1439 Medieval Norton Priory in West Sussex. The Bentley was supplied new in Duo Grey with Light Blue leather upholstery and Dark Blue carpets. After three years, the Bentley sold to a G.L Saunders Esq of Knowle Park in Warwickshire and by 1960 the Bentley was back in London W1, owned by Clayton Cars (London) Ltd in Bruton Place. The Bentley was then owned by Chancers Pit Garage in Worcestershire right through to 1977 when the car was sold to a Mr Watson in Gloucester. From 1980 the Bentley was with one owner for 19 years in Cheltenham, 9 years with a second Cheltenham based owner before selling to the most recent owner in Derbyshire back in 2008. 886 PBP was subject of a bare metal, extensive restoration with its most recent Cheltenham based owner but sadly due to ill health the program of work was curtailed. TheBentley was sold in 2008 and the most recent owner commissioned the completion of the major restoration. Having had an exceptional re-paint, the car was treated to re-chromed brightwork (Derby Plating), careful attention was given to the original seat bases and new draught excluders, a new headlining, door cards, carpets and boot carpet were all fitted to ensure a high quality, luxurious finish to the inside of the car. Mechanical work included rebuilding the carburettors, brake servo, replacing gearbox mountings, leather spring gaiters, anti-roll bars, shock absorbers, spring shackles, rear axle mounts, steering column gaiter, fuel pump, ignition system and various new engine gaskets. Door locks were replaced, pedal rubbers replaced, the sunroof mechanism overhauled, new Michelin tyres and a new windscreen fitted, and the MKVI Bentley was also treated to a new clutch, new master cylinder, new exhaust sections and exhaust manifold nuts and gaskets and various switches, knobs and seals replaced. This Bentley MKVI has clearly had very little use since completion of its long-term restoration and it really does present in exceptional condition. The Standard Steel body is outstanding with excellent straight panels, the underneath has been superbly restored and having a first class, gleaming paint finish with the exceptional brightwork, the car is ready for shows and events. The interior has been beautifully restored whilst still retaining much of its original leather that tells us this has never been a 'basket case' or badly stored and deteriorated car. The leather work has a lovely patina and feel to it and with beautiful woodwork, carpets, working sunroof and headlining the Bentley does offer that luxurious, high quality finish that is expected of this wonderful marque. The boot compartment is superbly presented and the engine bay execptional benefitting from some serious attention to detail. 886 PBP does not disappoint on the road with a strong 4257cc engine holding very good oil pressureoffering impressive performance. The manual gearbox changes up and down smoothly with no signs of major wear, another clear indication this car has led a sheltered life. With its rebuilt suspension and braking system the Bentley is a true delight on the road and offers a very special driving experience. The MKVI was known for its refined, responsive drive and this example demonstrates why these cars were and are now still highly sought for their wonderful driving experience. This model was capable of 100mph and whilst we would not attempt anything near this, this very sharp, fit and healthy MKVI certainly feels like it wants to be driven and feels very comfortable underload with excellent power and acceleration delivery. The independent front suspension and leaf-sprung 'live' rear axle really contribute to making this such an incredibly superb car to drive and we are confident it will not disappoint. 886 PBP is a car to summer tour with, it would be ideal for long distance, for taking on theContinent with its impressive performance, high quality ride and with its working sunroof it will make summer rallies and tours even more pleasurable. The Bentley comes with thousands of pounds worth of invoices for the recent expenditure, RREC copy build sheets and continuation logbook copy, tool kit and retains its original chassis and engine confirming this is a matching numbers car. Price: 44,995
