A unique competition inspired Sprint uprated to Veloce + specification History of this car First registered new in Sicily on 16.7.1959 this Tipo 750B remained with the original owner until 2011, at which point it had been off road and stored unused for some 20 years. The next owner from 2011-15 set about transforming this Sprint into the amazing car we have here today, a tribute to a period privateers road/race Alfa Romeo. Over 50,000 was spent , on parts alone, including a genuine numbered Veloce block, new old stock Conrero engine parts, original TZ tachometer, original SZ inlet manifold and much, much more; the mechanical build was completed by an old school master mechanic, and this Alfa delivers a driving experience like no other. We have over 100 photos of the mechanical build, so please get in touch to receive a DropBox link. This Alfa has great charm and greater performance and is suitable for a number of events or just fun and fast road use. The Sprint was a competitor in the 2017 Monte Pellegrino Historic and appeared at the Classic Alfa Goodwood track day in 2018 (pictured here, that photograph copyright Ken Carrington). Bodywork Our Sprint has a superb paint job which would put many far more expensive cars to shame. It is the original Rosso colour and presents with a thin high gloss with no peel. Panel fitment is very good. The chassis is arrow straight and there is no rust or accident damage on this car. Whilst the suspension was removed in the build, all wheel arches were bare metalled and given a thin satin black paint finish (again photo documented). We have pictures of the car prior to the works being done to show the well preserved condition of the vehicle. The glass and what little external trim is fitted is very good, and original SV badging is fitted throughout. Mechanicals Our Sprint has an incredible specification: Completely rebuilt engine around a genuine numbered Sprint Veloce 1300cc engine block using new old stock Conrero cams, valves bespoke made from Conrero original drawings, three angle seats, ported and polished, Arrow pistons, all new bearings, seals, water pump, distributor and ignition system plus OE GTA type oil cap/breather and original TZ inlet manifold. Around 1500 klms have been completed so the motor is still breaking in. Fitted with rebuilt Weber 40DCOE2 carburettors, Sprint filter box All ancillaries rebuilt Rebuilt upgraded 5 speed gearbox Alloy clutch Close ratio ring and pinion Twin electric fuel pumps Fuel tank removed, cleaned and refinished All new fuel lines Mocal oil cooler system Completely rebuilt braking system All new suspension bushes and ball joints, all suspension components removed and repainted, adjustable dampers. New SS exhaust system Solid Borrani wheels New pre-sale maintenance in June 2018 includes: Fitment of 4 x Avon 175/70HR 15 CR6ZZ tyres (£1000) New HD battery Oil and filter change Interior The attention to the mechanicals of this special Alfa is continued inside: SZ seats TZ 10,000 rpm tacho SV 220kph speedometer Battery cut out Radio blanking plate replaced by custom panel containing push starter, independent fuel pump switches, ignition switch Oil pressure gauge fitted Custom bolt in cage fitted (side sections removed for photography but come with the car) Quilted floor and parcel shelf trim, all hand made, beautifully done New door cards New head lining Summary Dont confuse this car with the average track prepared Sprint. This characterful thoroughbred Alfa is for someone who wants something different, and who appreciates the best quality workmanship. E&OE

The Alfa Romeo Giulietta was a family of cars built by Alfa Romeo from 1954 to 1965 which included a 2+2 coupe, a 4-door saloon, estate, spider, Sprint and Sprint Speciale. During its production run 177,690 Giuliettas were built before it was succeeded by the Giulia in 1962. The first example to be introduced was the Giulietta Sprint 2+2 Coupe that debuted at the 1954 Turin Motor Show. Designed by Franco Scaglione at Bertone, the car was produced at the coachbuilders Grugliasco plant near Turin. The following year the Sprint was joined by the 4-door saloon before the introduction of a two-seat Giulietta Spider featuring bodywork by Pininfarina. A facelifted version of the Berlina was produced in 1959; this featured a repositioned fuel pump and fuel door as well as a revised front end, recessed headlights, new grilles with chrome frames and two horizontal bars. This car is equipped with the 80bhp 1,290 cubic centimetre DOHC four-cylinder engine with a light alloy block and hemispherical cylinderhead. Power is transferred to the wheels via a 4-speed manual transmission, while hydraulic drum brakes and worm-and-sector were responsible for stopping and turning respectively. The car underwent restoration in the years prior to 2009, at which point the previous owner took ownership and put less than 1,000 miles on it following its full mechanical and body rebuild. Work carried out during the middle of 2017 included new door seals, new battery, installation of hand throttle and choke cables, replaced clutch release bearing, check and adjust ignition timing, geometry tuning, handbrake system overhaul, new brake master cylinder, new washer fluid bag, pump and cap, new inlet manifold gaskets and replaced fuel filter. All this to say that this example is one of the finest driving examples available anywhere today, one of Alfa Romeo's purest driving experiences!

  • Auction: 24th/25th Aug 2018 - RM Sotheby's - Monterey Auction

To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION WITHOUT RESERVE at RM Sothebys' Monterey event, 24 - 25 August 2018. Inspired by the famous BAT show cars and Disco Volante prototypeQuality restoration, in highly attractive colorsEquipped with its original engine The stunning Sprint Speciale coupe directly descended from Carrozzeria Bertones brilliant Bertone Aerodynamica Technica (BAT) design studies of the mid-1950s. With its extremely low drag coefficient of 0.29, it was aimed at competition, and a limited number were produced to meet FIA homologation rules. The Speciale utilized lightweight construction that had been built on the chassis of the popular Giulietta Spider, and it came with a domed roofline and gracefully peaked fenders. The Giuliettas sturdy 1,300-cc, all-alloy, four-cylinder engine was fitted with a pair of Weber side-draught carburetors, and it could produce a healthy 116 hp. This was enough power to push the slippery two-seater to almost 125 mph, considerably faster than its conventionally bodiedGiulietta Sprint coupe and spider siblings. The unique plastic air deflector mounted ahead of the windscreen, which was more commonly seen on competition Ferraris of the era, added to the cars racy flavor. It is estimated that no more than 1,366 Sprint Speciales were produced between 1957 and 1962, in both Giulietta and larger-engined Giulia form. The example offered here was restored several years ago in its beautiful shade of dark blue, with a complementary soft grey interior piped in red accents, and red carpeting. The level of detail and finish throughout is impressive, with the paint still having an excellent shine, and the upholstery appearing tight and fresh. Furthermore, the car has a fine appearance of authenticity, with what appear to be the original serial number tags, body, and chassis number stampings, and the original engine under the hood. At the time of cataloguing, the odometer recorded 37,476 miles. This is an excellent example of one of the most desirable Italian sports cars of itsera. To view this car and others currently consigned to this auction, please visit the RM website at rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/MO18.

To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION WITHOUT RESERVE at RM Sothebys' London event, 5 September 2018. Complete with FIA and CSAI Historic Technical PassportsExtensively campaigned across Europe, with documented race history Alfa Romeos stunning Giulietta Sprint Speciale descended from Carrozzeria Bertones brilliant Bertone Aerodynamica Technica (BAT) design studies of the mid-1950s. With its extremely low drag coefficient of 0.29, it was aimed at competition, and a limited number were produced to meet FIA homologation rules.Utilising lightweight construction that had been built on the chassis of the popular Giulietta Spider, it came with a domed roofline and gracefully peaked fenders. It is estimated that no more than 1,366 Sprint Speciales were produced between 1957 and 1962, in both Giulietta and larger-engined Giulia form. A prototype of the Giulietta SS won the Best of Show honours at the 2017 Concorso dEleganza Villa dEste in 2017, speaking to its timeless beauty. Beginning its life as a standard coupé delivered new to Italy, this Sprint Speciales history is known from 1967, when it was owned by Franco Scaroni. Bruno Zani purchased the car in 1970 and retained ownership for the following 31 years. Loris Modena purchased the car and kept it for four years, selling to Domenico Nobile in 2005. During the early 2000s, the car was converted to competition specification. Following conversion, the Sprint Speciale was awarded both FIA and Commissione Sportiva Automobilistica Italiana (CSAI) technical passports. This car has participated in a large number ofevents, at many historic circuits, including Vallelunga, Misano, Varano and Monza and was owned by British historic racer Anthony Godin. Its extensive history in vintage racing is chronicled in its CSAI Passport. Furthermore, its FIA Historic Technical Passport (valid until 2025) has been released in the UK by the MSA.As would be expected following extensive racing, improvements and changes were made to this Sprint Speciale, including the use of an original factory replacement block, with all-original components that include a double oil sump, Weber carburettors, four exhaust manifolds and an original SS/SZ engine head. While it has been converted for racing use, the car comes with its original Italian libretto, cancelled for export, and can be registered again for road use should its next owner desire to do so. The aerodynamic Sprint Speciale can punch above its weight on the track and represents a fine steed for both experienced racers or those early in their vintage racing careers. To view thiscar and others currently consigned to this auction, please visit the RM website at rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/LF18.
