We are delighted to offer this Home Market RHD Triumph TR5 PI onto the market. XLM 565G left the factory finished in Valencia Blue with Tan trim and Black hood, built on the 14th August 1968 and despatched on the 29th of the same month. The TR5 was supplied new with heater and overdrive, and was issued with the Greater London registration mark XLM 565G. Wimbledon based dealer L.F Dove Limited sold the car new on the 4th September 1968 to a Mr G Gurney of Surrey and we have the original service book containing the cars first two services, both by the supplying dealer at 1102 and 12421 miles. XLM 565G also still retains its original 'buff' logbook confirming the car spent three years with its first owner in Surrey. It would seem plausible the TR5 was taken back into stock by the supplying dealer as the second owner was local to L.F Dove Ltd on West Side Common in Wimbledon. In late 1972 its Wimbledon based owner moved to Newcastle Upon Tyne, taking the TR5 up to the North East where it has spent mostof its life. Throughout the 1970's, large Scotland and North East dealership Rossleigh maintained the TR5 and a comprehensive file of receipts and invoices are still with the car. In 2003 the TR5 PI was sold in need of major restoration having being off the road for many years. From 2003 to 2011, XLM 565G was completely rebuilt from the ground up to a truly exceptional standard. A photographic record confirms the TR5 was subject of a bare chassis rebuild and with the assistance of highly regarded specialists, the car was taken to show standard condition. The chassis was blasted and completely rebuilt, the bodyshell fully restored and the bare shell painted inside, outside and underneath, and the car then built up with perfect panel gaps. The TR was re-trimmed to a very high standard, all brightwork replaced or re-chromed, the boot area completed to show condition and the dashboard and dials completely re-furbished. The Triumph was fully rebuilt mechanically with no expense spared. The engine was ina very poor state and was deemed unrepairable. A replacement 2.5 PI engine was sourced and fully rebuilt with new pistons, oil pump, timing chain, tensioner chain, new rocker shaft, oil seals, new valves etc all supplied by TR Shop London. The block was re-bored, the crankshaft polished and on build up new manifolds, injectors and Bosch fuel pump fitted to the car. Steering, brakes and suspension were rebuilt, gearbox and rear axle overhauled, coolant system renewed and all electrics replaced and renewed. Like the rest of the car, the engine bay was taken to show condition and since completion in 2011 the TR5 has covered 3000 faultless miles. Eight years on since restoration, the TR5 still presents like a recently completed rebuild. There is no doubt this TR5 is in show condition, paintwork and bodywork are completely first class, panels are perfectly straight with excellent gaps and the underside is equally as impressive. The level of detail is superb with a beautiful engine bay, perfect sparewheel well and the interior has been trimmed to a superb high standard. The hood and cover are perfect, the correct style wheels are excellent and the car requires no cosmetic attention. On the road XLM 565G offers a brilliant driving experience. Its tight, holds the road perfectly and the engine is super fit holding excellent oil pressure and delivering impressive performance. The gearbox is super slick with perfect smooth changes, the overdrive comes in smoothly, the rear axle is lovely and quiet and the car feels absolutely right. This is a car with superb history dating back to new, has been kept as original and correct as possible, has been rebuilt to a first class standard and maintained and superbly kept since. With only 3000 miles since completion, this is effectively a fresh rebuild that has been nicely run in since and has to be one of the finest available in terms of condition and provenance. This is a matching numbers left hand drive, non-sunroof very early SC, originally supplied to Japan and by chassis number is the 10th 911 officially imported there back in 1978, spending the majority of its life in the land of the rising sun before coming over to the UK in 2014. Finished in its original Guards Red and complemented by a set of uber rare RUF Speedline wheels, recently refinished in satin black to compliment the dark trim elsewhere on the car, this really is a great looking 911. It presents beautifully, with factory correct panel gaps and lovely paint that positively pops in the sunlight. The car carries a light feel and so the foglamps have been removed, as have the painted headlight rims, though these remain with the car and are in excellent condition. Fitted with a lightweight interior in black, including door cards, perforated corduroy Recaro style seats (at a cost of almost 3000) and a rare RUF leather bound steering wheel, whilst the remainder of the interior is delightfullyfactory original and in excellent order, with no cracked or warped plastics to be seen and everything working just as it did 41 years ago. Loved by the current custodian for 2 years, having been purchased from a Porsche specialist back in June 2017, car has been further improved with a series of small cosmetic jobs including a new front bumper set and all rubbers, repainted rear valance, rear deck and bootlid in addition to those restored Speedlines. A stickler for period detail, a correct set of 1970's raised digit number plates have been fitted too. Whilst all this makes for great reading, what makes this car really special is its structural integrity. Having lived in a completely salt free environment for most of its life, it has never had the opportunity to corrode from the bottom up, as most 911's do and when we first put it up on our ramps, we were amazed to see all of the original factory underseal completely intact; something the last owner managed to preserve for posterity with a recentapplication of clear wax. In the last 2 years the car has been very lightly used with just over 1500 km's covered, so the total mileage stands at 145,000 km's since new, which equates to just over 90,000 miles in 41 years. Since 2017, the 911 has been serviced 3 times, so it's absolutely on the button and there's a comprehensive history folder that stands testament to the care it's received over the years. From a mechanical standpoint, the car is completely standard, with the exception of a set of stainless SSI's which make a lovely noise, popping purposefully on the overrun and adding a useful power boost to around 190bhp. Unsurprisingly, it drives beautifully, just as an original well sorted 911 should; it's highly communicative, responding to the lightest of driver inputs. We love cars like this - that have never been apart, bodged and then 'restored', either properly or otherwise; there's an old adage that they're only original once and this is such a car. It still carries its original factoryfloor mats and the 'Mizwa' supplying dealer sticker is still in the rear 'screen - just lovely!; We've never seen a 911 of this age in such an exceptionally correct state of preservation and the last owner sold the car with a genuinely heavy heart in order to fund the purchase of a classic Range Rover. He knows that he'll struggle to find another 911 that's as delightful. This is a very special 911 in a perfect specification - a car to cherish. Available at 52995; if you're looking for a 'proper' matching numbers 911 with an interesting history that really is as good underneath as it is on top, you will struggle to find a better example with this level of originality this side of 60k, if perhaps at all.
