  • Auction: 20th/21st Sept 2019 - RM Sotheby's - The Saragga Collection

To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION WITHOUT RESERVE at RM Sothebys' The Sáragga Collection event, 20 - 21 September 2019. U.S. delivery exampleLess than 32,500 miles from newDesirable Guards Red over Beige colour scheme In 1989, in an effort to celebrate its rich history, Porsche revived the iconic Speedster badge. Just like the 356 A, the 1989 911 Speedster adopted a back-to-basics approach, forgoing creature comforts in pursuit of a distilled open-air experience. Hearkening back to its predecessor, it boasts a humpback tonneau cover on the wide body kit from the concurrent 911 Turbo, a cut-down and raked windscreen, as well as Fuchs alloy wheels. Power came from Porsches reliable 3.2-litre flat six-cylinder engine, producing 215 horsepower at 5,900 rpm, which was channelled to the rear wheels through a Getrag five-speed manual gearbox.Finished in Guards Red with Beige leather and beige carpets, this U.S. specification example has been driven less than 32,500 miles from new. According to the accompanyingCarfax, the car was delivered new to Illinois before later moving to California in the mid 1990s, where it remained until 2017 prior to being exported to Portugal. Presented in fine original condition with gleaming paintwork and an immaculate interior, it is a testament to the care and attention bestowed on it by its previous owners. To view this car and others currently consigned to this auction, please visit the RM website at rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/pg19.

  • Auction: 10th/11th Oct 2019 - RM Sotheby's - Hershey Auction

To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION WITHOUT RESERVE at RM Sothebys' Hershey event, 10 - 11 October 2019. Offered from the William B. Ruger Jr. CollectionFiona, a one-off Rolls-Royce created for enthusiast John DonnerProfessionally engineered conversion to Phantom IV specificationPowered by the sole remaining original spare Phantom IV inline eight-cylinder engineExhaustive history and restoration fileA fabulous, elegant creation and marvel of engineering William B. Ruger Jr. and John Donner would have enjoyed one anothers company. Both men were avid Rolls-Royce enthusiasts, and both had the fierce desire and means to make their dreams reality. No finer example can be found than this Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith, the result of Mr. Donners desire for one of the legendary Phantom IVs, of which just 18 were built. Unable to acquire one of these cars, Mr. Donner acquired the Silver Wraith in 1989 and converted it to Phantom IV specification! The sole surviving spare genuine Phantom IV engine was found, acquired, andrebuilt, then carefully installed in the Silver Wraith, with appropriate modifications to the firewall and reinforcements to the gearbox. Thanks to painstaking engineering work by Mr. Donners restorer, John Dray, the installation was virtually seamless and unnoticeable from within the car. All of this work was with the assistance and cooperation of Rolls-Royce, which advised on the engines fitment with twin SU carburetors. At the same time, the balance of the car was restored as well, with a conversion to the classic-style Lucas P100 headlamps and installation of air-conditioning and an electric sunroof. Much of the restoration was completed by Wildae Engineering, with final finishing by P&A Wood. The car was shown by Mr. Donner at the 1997 Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts Club Annual Meeting, winning 1st in the Concours class. Yet Fiona was very much intended to be driven and was journeyed abroad several times, including a 1999 jaunt to Jordan and Israel.Mr. Donner eventually sold Fiona to American PhantomIV enthusiast Robert Shaffner, after which it was acquired by Mr. Ruger. Still well-preserved and well-presented, it remains a fascinating, fabulous vehiclethe only one of its kind and a testament to the passion of John Donner and the good care of William B. Ruger Jr.To view this car and others currently consigned to this auction, please visit the RM website at rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/hf19.
