Porsche began development of turbocharging on their race cars during the late 1960s, and in 1973 began work on a turbocharged version of the 911. They originally needed to produce the car in order to comply with homologation regulations and had intended on marketing it as a street legal race vehicle like the 1973 Carrera 2.7 RS. As with many cars in history the race regulations changed during this period meaning 500 Turbos had to be produced to homologate the model so the 911 Turbo was put into production in late 1974. While the original purpose of the 911 Turbo was to gain homologation for the 1976 racing season, it quickly became popular among car enthusiasts. The next stage was to intercool the turbocharger and increase the engine capacity to 3.3 litre in 1978 producing a powerful 300 bhp and making the car much more drivable compared to the earlier model which suffered from turbo lag. This lovely 1979 example was supplied by Maltin motors and had the popular specification of silver metallic, electric sunroof, air con and full leather interior. She has been cherished and well maintained including a bare metal repaint in 2006 costing several thousand pounds, gearbox rebuild and all work is itemised in the comprehensive history file which includes all handbooks ,stamped service book, all mots and service invoices. On the road these 911s are staggering especially for a 1970s car and despite using a strong 4 speed gearbox which was capable of handling the power they are very useable and lots of fun whether cruising or on quick cross country trips. Supplied fully inspected, serviced with 12 months warranty.

When the MkII Escort was launched, the RS name continued with the Cosworth-engined RS1800, produced in tiny numbers. More widespread Rallye Sport production was initiated with the RS2000 of 1976 which substituted the diva-ish Cosworth unit for a sturdier two-litre Pinto powerhouse. However, the real talking point about the RS2000 was its polyurethane droop snoot front end and air dam, a modification that clearly distinguished it from any other Escort. They only built around 10000 units which was low volume for Ford! Weighing only 900 kgs the Pinto engine provided good performance with 0-60 achieved in 8.5 seconds and 108 mph not quick today but good enough for the 1970s boy racers who lusted over these gems. I remember staring through the local Ford showroom window at a new white one when I was 14 years old and dreaming of how great it would be to drive. This lovely Venetian red example is the genuine article being a UK RHD car from new and still with its 2.0 litre Pinto engine. The only updates are a necessary 5 speed gearbox and a 4 branch tubular exhaust manifold. Compared to the standard 4 speed the gearbox means long distance cruising is very easy and much more relaxing. There is a good history file with lots of Ford specialist invoices and old mots etc. On the road these cars are really surprising with nimble handling modern cars could only dream of and good performance providing great fun and looks. Supplied fully inspected, serviced with 12 months warranty.
