  • Auction: 24th/27th June 2020 - RM Sotheby's - Essen Auction

To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION WITHOUT RESERVE at RM Sothebys' Essen event, 27 March 2020. Repainted in attractive Light Ivory with contrasting Palomino trimUS-delivery exampleRecent mechanical freshening In every generation, Mercedes-Benz has built a two-door coupe and a soft-top cabriolet on its mainline sedan chassis to provide a distinctive automobile for its more affluent customers. Two years after the W111-bodied sedans with their American-derived rear fender fins were introduced in 1959, stylist Paul Bracq penned a more attractive coupe and cabriolet body style. With no body panels or major interior trim components shared in common with their plebeian sedan siblings, these models were assembled on their own line at the Sindelfingen factory outside Stuttgart. The addition of chrome side trim, burl-wood interior fascia, and distinctive 14-inch wheels added touches that appealed to buyers then and collectors today. However, the M127 2.2-litre engines were their weak link, providing barely enough powerto move the heavier body style with its extra body reinforcement required to compensate for the pillarless design. Their coil-spring suspension also didnt provide the necessary ride comfort commensurate with the price being charged.Consequently, by 1963 the engineers had added a second engine, the M189, to the lineup, which produced 185 SAE horsepower with an autobahn-capable top speed of 115125 mph. The W112 chassis of this example also was built on a much more comfortable air suspension. This car was originally shipped new to the United States but has recently returned to its native Germany. Upon its arrival, the cars air-suspension system was completely rebuilt, and it has been fitted with a new water cooler and new hoses in the engine bay. According to information provided by the consignor, the engine is original, but the gearbox has been replaced. The colour code 573 on the trim tag in the engine compartment indicates this car was originally painted dark Bordeaux. The 300 SEs stately elegancemake it very desirable and collectable, and it shall convey its next owner in style and elegance with the top up or down.To view this car and others currently consigned to this auction, please visit the RM website at rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/es20.

To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION at RM Sothebys' Essen event, 26 - 27 March 2020. Retains its original engine and gearbox|Offered from 15 years of single ownershipFully restored and equipped with several upgrades including high-performance brakes and a stainless-steel exhaust When introduced at the 1961 Geneva Salon, the new Jaguar E-Type created a sensation with its extremely sleek and timeless design and staggering performance. Constructed using methods derived from the race-bred D-Type, the E-Type was a technical marvel. The light and rigid monocoque chassis used the engine itself as a structural part of the car, with the long and sleek bonnet hinged at the front. The E-Type featured a four-wheel independent suspension, disc brakes all around, and a four-speed manual transmission. The proven XK engine was carried over from the XK 150, assuring the sleek new Jaguar would exceed 150 mph.Originally delivered to the United States in 1964, this stunning E-Type resided there until 1988 before being shipped toGermany by a collector who restored it to a very high standard. It was subsequently acquired by a collector in North Rhine-Westphalia. The current owner added this beautiful Jaguar to his own stable of fine British and Italian sports cars in 2004. It has had an H registration for the last 15 years and has been exercised on a regular basis.Upgrades include a Coopercraft high-performance brake system, high-performance ignition coil and ignition cable set, new spoke rims, a stainless-steel exhaust system, new clutch, as well as an additional thermal fan for reliability. The original Smith dash instruments have also been rebuilt. A complete file of receipts documenting all the parts and service performed accompany the car. This highly desirable Series I Roadster, fastidiously serviced and ready to be enjoyed, presents beautifully in gunmetal grey with red leather. Perfectly suited for touring and club events, the E-Type Jaguar represents a milestone in sports-car design and engineering that collectorsand enthusiasts have admired for decades. To view this car and others currently consigned to this auction, please visit the RM website at rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/es20.
