You don’t have to battle it out in the auctions to take home a car from RM Sotheby's
RM Sotheby’s have remained a cornerstone in the collecting world, constantly offering global buyers premiere and curated cars at their countless quality auctions.
But if you’re after a Sotheby’s-level car, but don’t want to wait around for the next seasonal auction, they’ve recently opened a dedicated Private Sales division.

With cars available instantly, direct from seller to buyer.
The cars on sale aren’t lower-grade examples that couldn’t pass muster at auction either, there’s some serious machinery on offer right now.
One of which is a 1937 Bugatti Type 57SC Atalante, the first of four ‘low-headlight’ examples produced, and a multiple-winner at Pebble Beach’s Concours d’Elegance.
Price, however, is on request.
There’s also two Ferrari 365 GTC/4’s on offer, one with a Scaglietti body and another draped in the lines on Pininfarina. Prices are AUD$775,000 and AUD$296,000 respectively.
The two most affordable cars currently available via RM Sotheby’s Private Sales division are a 1966 Jaguar E-type Series I roadster with the 4.2lt straight-six, yours for AUD$211,465; and a rare 2011 Mercedes-Benz SLS Gullwing, listed for AUD$225,000. For relative context, there’s currently two SLS roadsters listed in Australia, both for AUD$450,000.
As the car collecting increasingly gains popularity around the world, RM Sotheby’s has made the bold move to cater for clients outside of the traditional auction space.
With their unique experience within the community, in-house team of specialists and global network of clients – the private sales division initiative may be a head of the curve. Will competing auction houses open up their clients’ consigned cars to a direct sale stream? We wouldn’t be surprised.
Should you look to sell or buy a car via the famed auction house, you can contact them via email at private@rmsothebys.com, or call direct to one of their global offices based in California, New York, or London.
