Back in 2015 you could pick up a Renault Alpine GTA for around $15-$20k, but look out for chassis rust and possible electrical issues
Renault Alpine GTA
You don’t need us to tell you that the Poms are a strange bunch. They worship the Porsche 911 and will happily pay $500k for an underwhelming 964 Turbo but offer them a rear-engined Renault Alpine sportster from just across the Channel and they’ll think you’re trying to introduce them to something terrifying and alien.
Every once in a while, though, a Renault GTA comes up for sale here, usually imported by a Brit.
Prices for these cars are on their knees right now and whether you choose the 2.8-litre 119kW normally aspirated car or the more fragile 149kW turbocharged 2.5-litre version, you can normally count on work needing to be done.
You can pick these up for $15-20k, but look out for chassis rust and be prepared for electrical fun and games. There’s an excellent owners club so spares and body panels can still be sourced.
Price guide:
Low: $15,000
High: $30,000
