One-off Fiat Abarth streamliner looks for new home
A wind tunnel-developed Fiat Abarth streamliner designed by Pininfarina and first shown at the 1960 Turin show will be looking for a new owner for the first time in several decades, at the upcoming Pebble Beach concours in August.
Known as La Principessa (Princess), the single-seater was designed to tackled endurance records and was powered by a Fiat 1000 Bialbero four-cylinder engine. The diminutive powerplant featured double overhead camshafts and dual twin-throat Weber carbs, good for about 90 horsepower.
In October 1960, the car set several records at Monza banked circuit, including a 10,000 run at an average 118mph (191km/h).
Gooding & Co is handling the auction, and is estimating a sale price of US$1-1.5 million.
