Jimmy Hodges' XY Falcon 4x4 workhorse was a big resto job
They made just 432 of these and that’s one of 16 that colour and one of 25 with the factory winch. It’s also running the rare PTO, connected off the back of the gearbox. It’s running a 250ci six, which is one of the few familiar Ford mechanical components in the driveline.
I never actually targeted this one, but came across it when I went to buy another car. This was sitting in the long grass outside the house, and the guy that owned it said it’s going. I bought it for $1250 and left it under a tree at home until I could figure out what to do with it.
This was a really big job to fix up, which I finished in 2010, but it took a long time to complete.
What’s it like to drive? Terrible! They’re not really designed as a road car. Anything like a tight roundabout you have to line it up and swing in wide to tackle it. It’s running a three-speed manual and has a top speed of 100km/h, but they’re not happy at that speed. They’re really a work machine.
Valuation: Difficult to call, start thinking around $60-70k for one of this standard.
