Back in 2009, we put together a list of 13 of our favourite one-offs that had been featured in Unique Cars – or advertised for sale (not counting modified cars or ‘specials’). At number three was this Porsche 959

From Unique Cars #300, Jun/Jul 2009
Just about every Porsche is special in some way but once in a while the Stuttgart sports car maker produces something so desirable and important for its time that it will always be coveted by collectors. Such is the 959 supercar, a limited-production model that featured ground-breaking four-wheel drive, driver-adjustable ride settings, exotic lightweight materials, Group C-inspired racing brakes and 331kW twin-turbo flat-six.
Like most of the 283 examples built from 1987, Oz’s only 959 is a ‘Comfortable’ model, benefitting from a few more creature comforts inside. Trucking magnate and discerning car collector Lindsay Fox kindly let us photograph and experience his left-hand drive silver-metallic 959, chassis no.242, a car he bought new in August 1988. We’ll be forever grateful.
