2023 Market Review - Pontiac GTO/Firebird/Trans Am 1964-1989
Our 1975-81 average was boosted this year not by a black ‘Bandit’ Trans Am but a rare Pace Car Turbo. These in their homeland are $US30-40,000 cars so $125,000 locally could be a stretch.
1967-70 Firebirds in ordinary condition should be closer to $50,000 than $70,000 (one made $41,750 at auction) so be cautious. Two convertibles in nice condition were offered at an ambitious $90K each. Cars from the 1970s ‘Bandit’ era have great kerb appeal and $50,000 is justifiable for a tidy 6.6-litre Trans Am.
1980s Firebirds are good entry-level classics and generally make $20-25,000, with the 5.7-litre GTA $10,000 more. Early GTOs are scarce in our market and worth US$60-80,000 overseas, so $100,000 is fair for an excellent 1964-67 Hardtop. Post-1967s are more common, some overpriced.
