2020 Market Review - Pontiac Firebird/Trans Am/GTO 1964-99
Performance Pontiacs come in two distinct sizes and a considerable variety of shapes. The GTO was deemed ‘mid-size’ but measured 5.2 metres and needed a 6.5-litre motor just to get around.
Firebirds were Pontiac’s ‘pony car’ contender yet by the 1970s could be bought with 7.4-litre, 455 cubic inch engines. Plenty of Firebirds came to Australia as new cars, however early models weren’t easy to find during 2020 and seem be slipping behind the Camaro in value.
The cost of 1970s cars is climbing and choosing to emulate moviedom’s ‘Bandit’ will now cost around $50,000. 1980s cars remain cheap but don’t overlook the 5.7-litre GTA that at $30,000 still offers value.
