1970 Plymouth ‘Cuda 426/450 Hardtop
Sold: $245,310
RM Sotheby’s
Built by Plymouth to crush all other factory muscle cars, the Hemi ‘Cuda was well specced with bucket seats, woodgrain console, a Rallye instrument cluster and Music Master AM radio. Outside were bonnet pins, drip rail and body sill mouldings, rear deck spoiler and chrome exhaust tips.
This is one of just 284 Hemi four-speeds built in 1970 and has travelled a genuine 19,850 miles.
It’s an original example of one of the best Yankee muscle cars made.
2005 Holden Monaro CV8-Z
Sold: $27,509
Graysonline
Being a proud Monaro owner I want to see the prices going up, but regardless of my feelings towards the Aussie coupe, the market decides. Built at the end of 2005 in the twilight of Monaro production, this Z has travelled 174,588 kilometres and I bet every one of them put a smile on the driver’s face.
1941 Packard One Ten Wagon
Sold: $150,426
RM Sotheby’s
Any car with the bragging rights of ‘Hercules built it’, has got my attention. The Packard Woodie wagon bodies originally came from Cantrell of Huntington from 1937, but production switched to Hercules in 1941. This one, sold new by Stahl Motor Co, Monterey, California, has been totally restored with the exterior wood refinished and varnished. There’s fresh maroon leather trim on the three rows of seats and the wood-grain dash has been restored bringing the entire car to concours condition. Being the Deluxe it has a heater and turn indicators, plus a push button radio.
1964 Sunbeam Tiger Mk 1
Sold: $173,604
RM Sotheby’s
When I see a Sunbeam Tiger I think of Maxwell Smart and all those doors at the start of the TV show Get Smart. I bet you do too. This is one of 27 in Balmoral Grey and in 2007 underwent a factory correct nut and bolt restoration.
It retains its original steering wheel, gear lever and Radiomobile 1070 radio and it sold with a factory hard top as well as the soft top. While Agent 86 put up with a four banger, this one has a 260ci Ford V8 in its snout. As Smart would say, “Good thinking, 99”.
2012 Lexus LFA Nurburgring Pack
Sold: $1.25M
RM Sotheby’s
In a moment of seriousness, Jeremy Clarkson called the Lexus LFA the best car in the world. And this one is like new with 54 miles on the clock. The 50-only Nurburgring Pack, celebrates the LFA’s three-peat win in the Nurburgring 24-hour race. Some racecar features crept their way onto the road car for a track-focused attitude. Its 4.8-litre V10 bangs out an attention grabbing 562hp.
