Back in 2009, we put together a list of 13 of our favourite one-offs that had been featured in Unique Cars – or advertised for sale (not counting modified cars or ‘specials’). At number five was this Plymouth AAR 'Cuda
Plymouth AAR ‘Cuda
From Unique Cars #300, Jun/Jul 2009
With its bright lairy paintwork, Coke bottle hips, and rumbling six-pack V8, the 1970 AAR ‘Cuda two-door featured a couple of issues back represents all that was so exciting about the golden era of American muscle cars.
Just 2724 AAR (All American Racers) Cudas were built by Chrysler in 1970 as part of its commitment to the Sports Car Club of America Trans Am race series, and what is believed to be Australia’s lone example is a recent arrival.
Packing a 340ci V8 producing in excess of 300hp, three-speed auto and all the good gear including fibreglass bonnet with race-style pins, it looks as tough in the metal as you’d expect from these wild factory racers. Its South Australian owner has given it a full resto and says it corners better than most muscle cars, thanks to its circuit racing DNA.
