With Autotechnica del Lario coachwork, the car is a genuine concours winner
Worldwide Auctioneers are set to hold their Scottsdale Auction come January 16 2019.
The auction holds a bevy of cars up for grabs, from 20s through Pre-War Art Deco cars, through to the swinging sixties and beyond.
The standout car however, is a very special one-off 1958 Alfa Romeo 1900 Sport featuring coachwork by Autotechnica del Lario.
Chassis #001, features a hand-crafted body that appears largely developed alongside the 1954 Alfa Romeo 2000 Prototype. The chassis is completely new, of steel tubular construction containing boxed-in sections to which the mechanical ancillaries are mounted upon.
The body is beaten out of 12/10 gauge aluminium and is draped over the birdcage chassis, presenting a similar ‘Touring Superleggera’ coachbuilding technique popularised by the Maserati 3500GT and early Aston Martin DBs.
Underpinning the gorgeous body, sits independent suspension at all four corners, with coil sprung shocks and front disc/rear drum brakes.
The car bears the Alfa Romeo 1900 ‘Super Mechanical’ package, and is powered by a 2.0lt “twin plug” Alfa Romeo engine with Twin Weber carburettors and glorious velocity stacks.
The car was displayed at the Quail, and won Best Original/Preserved car at Manhattan Beach Concours.
No estimate is provided by Worldwide Auctioneers, however a similar 1953 example built by Autotechnica del Lario sold at Silverstone Auction’s Classic Auction of 2016 for £70,875 (AUD$123,668).
