2023 Market Review - Oldsmobile 1953-1980
Oldsmobiles were common on 1960s Australian roads; locally built 1940s cars mingling with near-new 98s and the occasional 4-4-2.
Most of those originals are gone now, leaving more recent imports that haven’t been converted to RHD and as a consequence should cost less than those with conversions. Often they aren’t and it is possible to find a quite ordinary 1960s Olds advertised above $50,000.
Convertible versions of the Cutlass and 98 are often expensive, but so was a late 1950s Hardtop and one of the Toronados. 4-4-2 Hardtops in excellent condition are desirable, however the ones offered recently fell short on condition and didn’t achieve typical prices.
Early 1950s cars look frumpy but they were the Nascar superstars of their era and $50,000 is fair for a piece of history.
